| *** The news we didn't want to hear - DMCA warning from the FIA/FOA *** posted 5:19pm, 2nd September '08 | [SIZE=2]Formula One Administration Limited ("FOA") has the exclusive right to commercially exploit the FIA Formula One World Championship ("the Championship") including, but not limited to, all moving images, other audio/video content, timing data and results. In addition, FOA's associated company Formula One Licensing BV ("FOL") is the owner of numerous trademark applications and registrations throughout the world relating to the Championship, including F1, FORMULA 1 and official logos.
[SIZE=2][SIZE=2][SIZE=2]We have noticed that your Web Site [SIZE=2][COLOR=#0000ff][SIZE=2][COLOR=#0000ff]http://www.motorworld.net/[SIZE=2] is displaying and/or offering Formula One A/V content. All copyright in such images vests with FOA. As you have neither sought nor obtained permission from FOA or FOL to use this content, your present use is an infringement of FOA's and FOL's rights.
[SIZE=2]Please immediately cease all such infringements on any and all of your web sites and confirm to us via email that you have done so.
[SIZE=2]So there you go, I feel like I have been punched in the stomach, not only because of the huge loss to the site, but for all the hard work that everyone has been putting into making such a great F1 section.
[SIZE=2]We have removed everything as to comply with their request with immediate effect, so that the site remains online, while we try and decide what to do next.
Update: since this is not the first threat of legal action over content on the Tracker and we dont wish the site to close completely, we decided to remove the tracker to stop it taking the site down. |
| Server Downtime / Database Errors Tonight posted 1:36am, 22nd August '08 | Regarding the server downtime in the last hour or so, and then database errors on most pages once it came back to life:
There was a power / network failure at the datacenter, which caused the server to reboot unexpectedly.. this also corrupted the forum database and perhaps other parts of it too (TBH it was hard to tell when most pages were broken)
I then disabled web access to the site (you would have recieved a 403 / permission denied error if you tried to access the site during this time) to block everyone hammering trying to load pages so that I could run the repair function on the database - now everything seems to be ok, but if you come across any odd errors please report them here |

| Free Open Access To The Video Vault Trial posted 10:09am, 5th August '08 | We have decided to open up and allow full upload and download access to the Video Vault during the month of August.
Depending on how this goes, it may become a permanent feature.
Whats changed ?
1/ If you are a regular user, power user or any other class of user except for parasite class, you can now download as many videos as you like from the front page video vault. if you download a video, always remember to leave a comment and dont forget to vote.
2/ Uploading videos is now easier for all user classes (except for parasite class).
3/ Videos should be between 20MB - 100MB and also include a screen shot and a full description. Videos greater than 100MB and meet the tracker rule criteria should be added there.
4/ All videos are now "auto approved" meaning that your video uploads will appear on the front page immediately.
Inappropriate videos should be reported via the "report video" button and will be removed by a member of staff if necessary.
What will help decide if this is to become a permanent feature ?
A number of factors, including the amount of extra bandwidth consumed by allowing open access, the amount of videos uploaded (more is better) vs downloaded and general interest shown by way of comments left on downloaded videos. |
| Video Vault Sorting added posted 6:14pm, 5th February '08 | Its now possible to sort the videos in the Video Vault by several different criteria:
Age
Size
Downloads
Rating
by clicking on the name / icon at the top of the column, the first time it will sort them in ascending order (lowest -> highest), if you click the same field again it then sorts in descending order (highest -> lowest). |
| Video of the Week is back! posted 8:11pm, 4th February '08 | The Video of the Week feature is back, so every week one of the staff will pick a video which is then available for any member of the site to download.
You can see the current Video of the Week on the home page |
| Video Vault Updates posted 2:55am, 2nd February '08 | | I've now updated the Video Vault to use the improved comments system as developed for the Tracker recently, and added a Search page. |
