theres a few similar programs to dr divx that do a decent job, and they allow any codec, or of course you could do it the hard way and use gordianknot

I'll give a you copy of what I have used if you're interested

Finally cleaned up my top gear capture from sunday and tried encoding to xvid and the results are pretty impressive- here are some screenshots though you can't tell that much from them . its around 200mb BTW





As always from top gear some really nice camera angles 8)

Great result, are these pics taken from the encoded file ? Then what do you use to capture them ?

And , finally, which encoder do you use ?

i used virtual dub to encode the file using the xvid codec and captured the screen grabs using BS player all you do is press P . I had to play around with the settings for a while in virtual dub to get the quality right but its just a sliding scale so just trial and error for me really.
i was really suprised at the quality especially given my original recording wasn't that good- i had to remove noise from it in TMPGEnc as i had bad tv reception on sunday
