Default 5th Gear : S9 EP4 : 1st May, 2006 - Discussion

Tom gets special access to America's most exclusive supercar club, based in the wealthy desert city of Scottsdale, Arizona. There are just twenty members, who land their jets at the private airport, then walk a few steps across the tarmac to an extraordinary hi-tech underground garage fit for a James Bond villain. Within it are a host of Ferraris and Aston Martins kept in pristine condition. Tom looks behind the scenes and meets the millionaire owner of the club.

Meanwhile, race aces Tiff and Jason scrap it out on the track to find the best super saloon. Tiff takes the awesome Audi RS4, a four door family car with more power than an Aston Martin. Jason is at the helm of the BMW M3 CSL – it's much less powerful than the Audi but is lighter and more agile. The boys go drag racing, hold a drifting competition and finally have a race to find which car is best.

Elsewhewre, Vicki drives the new Alfa Romeo Brera, the most beautiful car to be launched this year. In the past, handsome Alfas have disappointed in the way they drive, so will this one buck the trend?

You may have had an email inviting you to join a scheme called "The Pipeline Card", promising discounts of 10p a litre on the price of fuel. It sounds too good to be true, so consumer champion Jon Bentley investigates to find out if it's just another internet scam or a legitimate attempt at saving people money.

And we meet the man who has had no luck in selling his house, so has now decided to throw in his immaculate Ferrari for free. Will the prospect of a £100,000 car on the driveway tempt any genuine buyers?
here's a question, since when is an M3 CSL a "saloon" (sedan)?

^^^

The M3 being referred to as a "saloon" is something to do with its roots as a saloon and te fact it is still a four seater. It happens a lot actually

I think you'll find that it is a CS they are refering to, not a CSL.

The RS4 vs CSL could become a good feature after so much boring crap from the last episodes...

All you RS4 fanboys, chill out till new M3 comes. Only then will it be fair to compare. RS4 is a great machine for sure, but I like RWD better (more fun).

A fairer test would have been against the M5. Lets see the RS boys smile then

And how is it fair then? RS4 is not M5's rival. Smaller car and everything. I think this test is pretty fair

So you think comparing a 2 door 2 WD coupe to a 4 door 4WD sedan, 80 bhp difference and 5 years worth of design on a wet track is a good comparison then? Sorry my mistake.

But then again is you take away the traction advantage of the RS4, from 0-30mph, and the difference is not that great. I think that the Autocar 30-70 times are identical (4.1 seconds?) and there is about 0.5 second difference in 60-100.

Come on Audi is this the best you can come up with? What will the new M3 bring, but once again they are cars for two different markets.

It's not my fault either that one is 2dr rear wheel coupe and other is not, M5 is also 2WD. These cars have been rivals since they born. There isn't a new m3 out yet and at this moment of the time the current RS4 is a bit better than old M3. When the new M3 comes out probably history changes back again.
