Two men who beat up their neighbour and left him for dead because they thought he had scratched their car have been jailed for life.

Alan Holt-Bell was chased into his garden in Lymm, Cheshire, before being punched, kicked and stamped on by William Collins and his step-son Gary.

Chester Crown Court heard the 64-year-old may have taken several days to die as he lay in his house.

William Collins, 36, and Gary Collins, 22, were convicted of murder.

His body was found on 21 February but police say the assault took place weeks earlier. A post-mortem examination revealed the retired gardener suffered a brain injury and fractured thyroid bone, as well as hypothermia.

His killers were told they would serve at least 15 years in prison, while Angela Collins - the wife of William and mother of Gary - was found guilty of assisting an offender and jailed for four months.

Det Ch Insp Guy Hindle, of Cheshire Police, said: "It is difficult to imagine what Alan Holt-Bell suffered as he lay dying for hours in the cold in his own home.

"His attackers left him there to die without giving him a second thought, despite seeing how gravely ill he was when they returned to steal valuables.

"Their actions are beyond contempt. Mr Bell was a quiet, inoffensive and private man whose brutal death shocked the community of Lymm."
15 years? why should this scum walk the streets again? really makes you dispair in human nature and the Justice system, how can anyone be this cold over what is a possession and then to go back and steal his possesions and still leave him to die, they don't deserve to call themselves human beings let alone be part of society again. Why does life never mean life in this country :bah:

makes me thankful that here 'life in prison' means no less then 25 years

15 is bullshit; and those guys have no pitty for those thugs. going back to the scene to steal from him should've added another 10 years on top of it

If they'd done that down in Texas they would definately be in line for their booster shot about now.

Death penalty would be the only fair outcome. These "people" have no place in our society
