Got these over the last two weeks ...

27. 1:18 1998 Ferrari 355 Challenge - Mattel
Model Rating: 9.5/10 - Plasticky rear deck lid. Ferrari of Houston sponsorship is nice. The wheels show evidence of wheel banging during the race. Simulated dirt -raced version. Front hood doesnt open

28. 1:18 2001 Ferrari 360 Challenge - Mattel
Model Rating: 9.0/10 - More solid than the F355 Challenge. Ferrari of Houston sponsorship is nice. Simulated dirt - raced version. But the dirt seems a little
unrealistic to me. Nice overall

The two together ...
Love the boxes with the simulated corners - like the F12001 box (I think)

29. 1:18 1988 Ferrari 328 GTB - Kyosho
Model Rating: 10/10 - Excellent detailing. The photo-etched engine is awesome are the pop-up lights ... Very cool and I got it for a reasonable price too - I am over the moon

30. 1:18 1955 Mercedes Benz SLR - Stirling Moss/Denis Jenkinson - Mille Miglia - Maisto
Model Rating: 9.5/10 - A very special car to me. Accurately rendered. I love the details - the steering tube that splits the pedals the removable headrest/aero piece, the canted over straight eight engine, the lights the stickers. This was the first car to record a near 100mph average over the entire race. The fastest ever.

I think someone else here has the Rudolph Ulhenhault's 300 SLR coupe 1:18. This would be a good companion piece to that.

31. 1:18 Shelby Cobra 427 - Road Signature
Model Rating: 9/10 - My first and probably only American car .. unless I get a Duesenberg. Nice model with decent interior - the engine could be better detailed though

32. 1:18 1993 Mclaren F1 - Maisto
Model Rating: 8/10 - Not as good as I thought. Go for the UT version if you can afford it. Interior OK, Exterior is very ordinary. Disappointed..

Went to Autozone and picked up 4 2003 spec F1 cars and separately a Gallardo elsewhere...

Here's the whole set together on a new shelf I got from IKEA - I was running out of shelf space .... I am thinking of putting a mirrir strip behind the shelf to get some reflection action going on....

From left to right
1. Williams FW25 - Juan Pablo Montoya - Hot Wheels
2. Renault R23 - Fernando Alonso - Hot Wheels
3. Mclaren MP4-17D - Kimi Raikkonen - Hot Wheels
4. Ferrari F2003-GA - Michael Schumacher - Hot Wheels
5. Ferrari F2002 - Michael Schumacher (not new) - Hot Wheels
6. Lamborghini Gallardo - Maisto

Neck to neck - the F2003-GA does have a longer wheelbase than the F2002 - so that is accurate.

Front suspension mounts and rear venturis

They have entered into a promotion with Mattel to sell 2003 spec F1 cars -I bought all the 4 they had at the store - Ferrari/Shumi, Williams/Monty or RSchumi, Mclaren/Kimi, Renault/Alonso.

I got them for $29 each which is a decent price compared to $40-60 they cost elsewhere.

Not all their outlets stock them ... so call ahead to find out ...

Apart from these cars they have the fast and furious type which I am sure you are not interested in

Been getting a couple of cars over the past couple weeks .... thought I'd post pics of the Italian, F1 and Porsche car collections. The new cars have been indicated below. All are 1:18s

Italian set
The new cars are:
1. HW F40
2. Kyosho 308
3. Autoart Diablo GTR

The F1 and P-car set...
The new cars are:
1. Minichamps 1976 McLaren M23 - Jochen Mass
2. Exoto Tyrrell P34 - Patrick Depallier
3. HW Porsche 911 GT3

Let me know if you want to see close ups of any... The Exoto Tyrrell version has been lovingly executed ....
