Default Adopting an old method

Hey guys, this may be a stupid question, but

I was watching some old Grand Prix racing movies, and I am wondering, why dont F1 racers do that "running to the car" start anymore? I thought that was pretty exciting.

I know it would probably alter qualifying results, but why did they take that out in the first place? Was there some kind of accident associated with that?

TopGear 502,

What is old in your perspective ? Pre WW2 ?
I wonder how old those vids were and if it really concerned GP races.
As far as I know that "running to the car" gimmick was only used in long distance racing like LeMans 24hrs and not in Grand Prix / F1 racing.

most drivers like to strap themselves up real tight so that they don't move an inch inside the cockpit during the race. To do that they'll need someone to help them tightening the belts to the point it hurts a bit.

It was when he drove the GT40?

Are you sure you were not watching old IndyCar races? Old indy car racers looked very similar to European F1 cars and In Indy they have rolling starts..

Oppss. Running to the car? Thats was in Le Mas, but it was ditched sometime in the 70s due to safety reasons as Dani said.
