i seriously doubt that, and you can have application disable the "aero" interface and whatnot when they load.

the official stance from MS is that it will be better for games, with directX 10

sounds like more BS from people that do not know what they are talking about

when i run RC1 , my need for speed most wanted, unreal tourney 2004, etc all run about the same, i cannot tell (visually) any difference!

Well I wouldn't be too surprised if games ran slightly worse considering dx10 just emulates dx9, and vista probably uses more resources. Of course this is just a guess as I haven't tried vista yet, and I probably won't buy it for a while after it comes out.

it's also kinda bullshit. did you guys not bother looking at the source? The Inquirer, widely known for questionable news posts based on supposed industry sources. I like to think of them as an internet tabloid, and I know a few forums who do as well.

Right now graphics drivers are in a very very early stage, and even so people on ATI cards have reported equal or better performance to what they saw in XP. Nvidia and ATI will no doubt have Vista figured out by it's retail release.

As PaulGT2164 said, Aero is unloaded during games so that has no impact on them. Many people on other forums complained about Vista's high memory usage, not realizing it uses the RAM efficiently, unloading what is necessary to run an application. Hense lots of services get disabled during gaming.

Like most people I'm waiting for the full retail release (don't feel like beta testing for a few months), but from what I've read on other forums Vista sounds pretty great, gaming included (for those with ATI, since the drivers seem to be up to the task).

I'd wait for RC1 or get one bundle on a new PC before going Vista. Last thing you want is to loose your data to a pre-RC1 bug.

The ONLY thing Window's has going for it these days are games.

M$'s so called "operating system" is just becoming a pretty video game system.

Who wants to start working on a proper OS for PC's?

What would you consider a proper OS?

Personally I can do everything I ever wanted, and stuff that I never knew I'd need to (Chemical engineering simulations) with Windows.

One that is secure and can handle processes properly. Something unix based would be nice.
