Didn't the GT40 top 200? Or was it at 200? I mean can't they eek out 1 more mph by going downhill?

This is tough, very tough. The F40 has great looks, and it's the last car that was brought alive under the old man's presence. The car talks to you in a way that no other...but it got turbos, and you cant get more UnFerrari. But I'll let it slip because everybody says that the turbos are in such good synch with the engine that you can barely notice them.
The F50 is amazing also. Great styling, true V12 N/A power, and it scares the shit out of anybody on the twisty stuff. You remeber how Clarkson said how much better it handles then the Macca?
I'll have to go with the F50 since they are extremly rare, they are more practical then the F40, they do got more on the paper.
Anyway I'd get the F50, and buy my self a 575M, a 355, and a 360CS.

Clarkson likes to over emphasize things, it makes him look more controversial. In the original review he commented that it wasn't the fastest or most powerful, but it was incredible and had the best turn in of any car he had ever driven.

I have the translation of an article from japanese magazine Car Graphic (in french) where they put the F50 vs the Macca. They said the same as JC, the F50 handles better but can't follow the Macca even on twisted roads because the Big Mac is really much more powerful. In the Best Motoring tests, they posted a better time in Tsukuba with the Macca but I am not sure it would win in a race because the F50 is a race car.

definitely the F40, not by design cuz' the F50 is way better looking than the F40 but, it's easier to make a big v12, than make a truly v8 twin turbo, and has better gas mileage (yeah, like that really matters) but its a pro for the F40, i think that the f40 it's a car that is more special, also love the big wing on the f40 (don't get me wrong, i hate riceboys), and also represent something more important than the f50, but shit...common we are talking about FERRARI it doesn't matter if its a mondial or a 308 or a f60 (enzo), get this "A FERRARI IS A FERRARI" 0X

I have been thinking about this one for a long time, but I can't figure it out.
I wish Ferrari built an F50 with F40 bodywork. Then it would be absolutely perfect.

yeah I would have to lean towards the F50, the turn in is supposedly incredible and in my opinion it is one of the best looking cars ever made. I do agree that the F40 is not so much of a Ferrari, with the added turbos. I think the best thing would be to have a F50 GT...now that would be simply amazing..here is a link to a site with picutres and some of the info

The F40 is without a doubt a car without compromises. You buy the car for one reason, to go fast.
The F50 has much more comfort than the F40. In the F40 you have a steering wheel and a gear shift, that's it. The F50 is more ... newer.
The performance of both cars are about the same, with a slight advantage for the F50. But everyone says the F40 is more a thrill to drive.
It's the way he delivers that power that makes it just such a joy - or should we say nightmare - to drive.
Not talking about my experience with the car, just read couple of articles racedrivers.
I'll go for the F40 ... it has just more charme and charisma ... hp just aint enough

You're saying the F40 is not so much a Ferrari because of the twin turbo, but if it was right for Enzo Ferrari, who we are to say that it's not a pure Ferrari???
I konw of a test mede in Estoril by Alan Jones, F50 vs McLaren. Hte F50 was 2 seconds faster even if it's way cheaper, less powerful and more heavy...the F50 is a big Elise..the McLaren doesn't handle so well. Too soft, too narrow, too much body roll. The F50 is simply better

This is really a tough one. The F50 was on my wall while I was a kid, and, as someone mentioned before, it was the first supercar they've known. BUT: I would probabily get the F40, because when it was built, it would anihilate ALL of its competitors, as shown in the Best Motoring videos. For its time, the F40 was in a league of its own. Just like you guys, I would prefer it was a N/A V12, like the F50. For sound, the F50 does sound better. DAMN...I can't make up my mind!
