Read over the whole definition of Standard of Living and tell me where its sole determinant factor is the amount of goods and services you can buy with the dough you earn. Before you take me on and call me an economic noob, you should consider taking economics 101 and not sleeping through it. Shhh! Don't mention that! It might ruin my stance. It's actually to see a specialist, not a general physicial. I went for a check-up yesterday with no appointment and had to wait only 10 minutes. I'm going to physio now.

We have that too. Low income housing, usually apartments or townhomes and sometimes even an average family house. They are not always in shitty neighborhoods like most would think either.

You get plenty of clothes, food, etc.

Same here. Goodwill stores and the Salvation Army will provide cheap (sometimes free) clothing and furniture. Food shelters will provide groceries to anyone without question. I dont' know what the programs are called in other states, but it Minnesota we have EBT and WIC. Both of which come from the state. Basically a credit card from the state to buy groceries. This is of course, free to low income families.
The EBT card comes with a cash account well, to buy other needed items.

You can even afford to run a car

Furthermore, you still get the free healthcare so if you're on welfare you're not fucked if you break a leg.

We have state provided healthcare and Dentalcare as well. It's called Minnesota Care here, not sure about other states. You don't have to be poor to get it either. Anyone can get it if their workplace doesn't provide it. We'll just ignore the fact that a hospital connot turn a patient away.

All that and our taxes don't come close to 40%.
