Default Empire Records (1995)

Dang, every now and then I wonder why this section is so slow and often almost dead yeah, there are some sparkles in here like for X3 or other big hits, but apart from that, almost nothing.
And yet, I am sure I am not the only DVD/movies-freak in here. I buy lot of DVD and watch tons of movies, on a regular basis, and yet, i never find the time or feel the "need" to open topics about them. But same goes for you all guys a bunch of lazy bums I suppose

And right now I am writing this, about a move which is not (and never will) a classic, nor a new one. it came out in 1995 when I was 16. It's, let's face it, a teen movie. Actually nothing bad about it, but usually ppl consider teen movies aimed at teens, and not at ppl in their mid 20 or more. But there is nothing bad in laughing our ass off while watching American Pie, so why not Empire Records.
Well, actually Empire Records isn't about humor. Well, not only. Humor and funny moments are there through the whole movie, and yet the main story or subplot aren't always funny.
it's about a bunch of weird and different ppl coming together, discovering they love each other, they need the others and want to be part of the group.
It's about realizing everybody is important (Deb); It's about dreams you don't dare to follow because you are too scared (Gina and singing) or about shattered dreams (Corey wanting to "marry" Rex Manning). It's about helping somebody just because you feel this person has no other mean to become a better person (Joe giving a chance to Warren ). It's about finding the courage to fight together for a cause, no matter if it's big or small (in this case, saving their store).
I remember the first time I saw it I was really moved at the end of the film, smiling and feeling like a little dumb girl (you know, at 16 you have this sort of proudness that tells you you can't be moved by a stupid film with an happy ending and no carnage/rape/nuke).
I bought the DVD time ago of course, added to my collection but never actually watched it. I prefer to watch DVDs of movies I never saw rather than the ones I know already.
Well, today I was checking the collection to verify the DVD were in perfect alphabetical order (yes, call me paranoid) and reaching the E I found Empire Record and wanted to check it out once again just out of curiosity, to see if it could still produce the powerful effect it produced 11 years ago (bloody hell, time passes quite quickly).

Oh yes, it does I am probably just a pussy, but it does. I just adore Gina's (Renée Zellweger) performance with Coyote Shivers at the end (Sugar High the name of the song, and if you are interested and can't find it, I have the "live" version with Gina). I have the MP3 in my PC and that's one of those songs I keep listening too because bring good energy and good memories back. I had to watch that scene over and over again and now I have the mp3 playing constantly until I'll probably just vomit

Now that I did my coming out, I hope to discover I am not the only one still remembering this movie featuring a beautiful and young Renée Zellweger, a stunning (as always) Liv Tyler, a poetic Rory Cochrane, better know today thanks to CSI Miami , and a bunch of other young artists which aren't maybe as well known as Liv and Renee but deliver a good performance, recreating a very realistic, totally wicked music store that just want to survive like in the good old days!

my good resolution for today is I'll try to always post a topic when I will watch a new movie, hoping it won't end up beeing boring

Indeed, it happened too many times that I bought a DVD just because I friend saw it and told it was good. Thats basically why this section was born to share reviews most of the time not just trailers

I haven't seen that movie in such a long time. It's a really good one though. It has it's funny moments but it's better on a deeper moment. I wouldn't really go as far as to say it's a teen movie though. Teen movies are pathetic. This one is more of an epic and it's a cult classic more than it is a regular classic.

Well, for sure not your typical teen movie like some Road Trip stuff or whatever, but not really far away from that
