it is a GT1, a different version, i believe this is the GT1 Evolution, it isn't a street version.

Well your right about Niki Lauda but it is more complicated than that. Over the years the length of the NS has changed. Niki set the time of 6:58.6 when the track was 22.835 km verses today’s 20.832 km track. When comparing different track lengths from different eras it is easiest to compare average lap speeds. Niki averaged 196.38 km/hr. As far as I know the fastest time was set in 1983 by Stefan Bellof in a Gruppe C Porsche 956 with an average speed of 202 km/hr.

The CGT time of 7:28 corresponds to an average speed of 167.4 km/hr. Your right that is extremely fast especially considering it is a street car. However, a 917 averaged 182.11 km/hr on the 22.835 track in 1973 and a 935 did it in 179.76 km/hr in 1979.

917 for me. I don't know why but I love that car, whis I have the only street version ever made. It's so sexy, brutal, fast, with a Palmarès unbelievable..

...when we´re talking about racing cars, definitely the 956/962!!!
its design was simply ahead of its time, it handles extremely good, had the best brakes by that time, stunning aerodynamics performance, was the first car featuring Bosch electronic fuel management, first Porsche car with monocoque instead of tube design, therefore it´s still most successful sports racing car of all time, just some key words: LeMans, FIA & IMSA endurance races, NS endurance races ( 1000km race…), endless list....
last but not least, as lakatu already pointed out, a 956 achieved a nearly unbeatable lap time on NS with 6:11 for the 20,832km track...

street cars......extremely hard decision....CGT or 993 Turbo S, can´t decide...

I would have to go with the 962 as well, its the most succesful endurance race car of all time!...if you are talking street cars you could always go for the Dauer 962 which is the racing version of the Porsche 962 but...I dont think its considered a true Porsche, and with over 700bhp at the rear wheels with no traction control and only lsd it is quite a savage car...however..its supported by the Porsche factory as it uses all porsche parts as far as I know apart from the headlights which are from VW...not the best choice there but, as far as fully PORSCHE street cars I would either go for the CGT the 911 RS, or the 993 GT2...I'm undecided

For me it's all about something that you can drive everyday and still have alot of fun at the track on weekends, therefore my choice would be the GT3

This is the most difficult survey I ever seen, because I like all Porsche's.

oops. i'm sorry. ops:

if only one, then i'd go for the 911 turbo. it's got supercar performance and can be used daily.

I would have to say the 993 and the 996 Porsche 911 turbos. They are the best all around sports cars IMO.

However, the Porsche 917, for its heritage, and the CGT, for its amazing technology are a good 2nd and 3rd.

CGT
917
962
935
996 GT2

The CGT might be slower than the 917 and 962, but it's actually a useable road car.
