Got a canon 400d with kit lens for christmas this year so have been taking hundreds of pics over the last few days. No car related pics but i thought i would post anyway and see if anyone had any comments or advice.

Cool! The 400D is sure a great camera although not a big leap forward compared to the 350D. I wonder why they still put that damn EF-S 18-55 in the kit be sure to save money for a proper lense because you'll soon get pissed at it when the novelty of the camera fades away

Have fun with your new camera, I enjoy my 350D a lot, but what TT says is so true, spare up for an other lense, I am sure you like the result with a new lense!
Nice doggy by the way

I had read about the kit lens and was gonna get another lens but it was too much $$$. I've been reding dingos topic and it seems the 70-300 is a good choice when it comes to a zoom lens but £360 for the IS version is a bit steep so it could be a while if i even manage to save enough

I've got an 350D and you're gonna be buying a new lens soon...

I'm still saving up for my new lens, bloody expensive though

Thanks for the comments.

I was looking at lenses and i can get a 50mm f1.8 II for £60. Does anyone know if this is any good and if there would be any point having it aswell as the kit lens, if it is i might just get one in a few weeks.

The 50/1.8 is great starter-lens. Sure, the build sucks and the AF is noisy, but it's really sharp from f/2.8 and up and at f/1.8 it's 3 1/3 stop faster than the kitlens. Allows for lowlight-photography and you can play with a small DOF. Also the fact that it's a prime (fixed focus) can really get your creative feelings going.

Today i got my first L lense, a 70-200mm f4/l and the difference between it and my other lenses is huge, it just feels so much more solid, definitely worth the money, feels like it will last forever. Its been raining all day so just took some pics out my window with it.

All straight from the camera just resized,

Hopefully I'll have some more interesting pictures in a few weeks after ive been to the isle of man TT races. just need to hope i get some good pics as itll be my first time shooting any type of motorsport.
