Default DTM - Round One

Don't forget, the Race takes place tomorrow at Hockenheim.

As for today:

Kristensen the fastest on day one
In the second DTM test at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg, held on Friday afternoon, Tom Kristensen succeeded in setting the day’s fastest lap time. Behind the wheel of his Audi A4 DTM, the Dane lapped the 4.574-kilometre GP circuit in 1:34.949 minutes, thus clearly beating the Super pole time (1:35.852 minutes) set by Martin Tomczyk in October 2004. On the way to securing second place, Mercedes-Benz driver Jean Alesi was more than half a second slower than Kristensen, with the French’s brand-mate, Jamie Green, finishing third in his AMG-Mercedes C-Class. In the closing seconds of the session, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and his Opel Vectra GTS V8 secured ninth position, thus finishing best of the Opel drivers.

According to plan, the second test session was red flagged with 20 minutes to go due to the simulation of red flagged race. This test that had been announced by Race Director Roland Bruynserade in the drivers briefing and was executed to point up the changes of DTM’s sporting regulations. These new regulations require that all the cars have to line up at the ‚Red Flag Line’ - usually the start finish line - in the case of a race being red flagged. Afterwards, the Safety-Car will be positioned in front of the motionless field to lead it to the re-start. “The test worked really fine,“ Bruynserade beamed afterwards.

Jamie Green, who had been the fastest for quite a while, used the closing stages of the session to watch the line of his rivals in the first turn after the start-finish straight. “All the cars are very close together,“ said the Briton, „Therefore, I wanted to find out if there is an opportunity to gain some fractions of a second.”

Good to know that "The Hakk" is back. He qualified 15th in the grid. The cars seem pretty close with 15th place only 1 sec behind. <-- not refering to the SuperPole session.
