Lamborghini working on pair of two-wheel-drive cars

The Estoque Concept that revealed Lamborghini's styling brilliance isn't reserved for two-door vehicles was preceded by much talk of a possible SV - superveloce - variant of the Murcielago. Part of the rumor of that car was that it would be two-wheel drive, rather than the standard Lamborghini AWD. A new report has emerged that lends credence to that idea even while it re-casts it in a new light.

The first of the cars to get the two-wheel-drive treatment, due in late 2009, will be the Gallardo, however, reports AutoTelegraaf after a talk with Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann. Dubbed the LP560-2, the new car will also bear the title 'Superleggera', Italian for 'superlight'. The superleggera version of the previous-generation Gallardo made do with AWD, however, so the new car should be even lighter. Shedding the front drive axles and differential therefore isn't about cost-cutting, but about weight savings, and the same ethos will be applied to the Murcielago that will follow.

The Murcielago will also feature the new naming convention, sporting an LP640-2 model number. Though the SV nameplate hasn't yet been pegged to the new Murcielago, it's an obvious possibility. Rumors that an SV-badged Murci may appear, at least in concept form, at the Geneva Motor Show in March would fit with a timeline for release later in 2009. The SV is also expected to lose as much as 220lb (100kg) compared to the standard car, and could possibly be RWD-only.

The next-generation Murcielago, already spotted in testing, isn't due until 2011, so the update to the aging car could help buoy sales in the interim.

Automobili Lamborghini foresees another record year of results in 2008 and is
not abandoning its long-term plans in spite of the bleak economic environment.
Sant’Agata Bolognese, 22nd December 2008 - Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. will
deliver another record year’s results in 2008. Official sales figures will be
communicated on the occasion of Lamborghini´s appearance at the Detroit Motor
Show in January 2009.
Even as a low volume luxury car manufacturer, Automobili Lamborghini is not
unaffected by the present downturn in economic activities in the wake of the
global financial crisis. However, the company is in a favourable strategic position
due to its identity as a luxury brand of longstanding tradition. One of its core brand
values is exclusivity, which is maintained through tight management of volumes
and a strict policy of maintaining a strong forward order bank. This exclusivity is of
essential relevance to both dealers and customers and is pivotal for the appeal of
the brand.
Lamborghini has the most attractive product line-up in the company´s 45 year
history. With at least one new product launched every year, and the continued
development of the dealer network to maximise market penetration, Automobili
Lamborghini has produced a year on year record performance in terms of
turnover, profit and volumes for the last four years, together with a rare double
digit profit margin. The company´s development marks one of the most respected
company turn-around programmes in the automotive and luxury industries.
Long before 2009, the company took decisive steps to address potential market
volatility. Production flexibility is made possible by cooperative concepts
developed with the union representatives. Besides flexible working hours, it
provides the opportunity to create training and qualification programmes during
work hours. There will be no layoffs, but an extension of the Christmas holiday for
eight days has been confirmed.
Lamborghini will not divert from its long-term strategy. Investment into R&D will
not be reduced, and there will be ongoing expansion of its brand presence on a
world-wide scale, with more new products and further expansion of its dealer
network. The company will continue its strategy of announcing at least one new
product each year. The latest examples of this are the new Lamborghini Gallardo
LP 560-4 Coupe for which deliveries commenced summer 2008, and the Gallardo
LP 560-4 Spyder unveiled in November 2008 with market launch in spring 2009.
Lamborghini continues its stated objectives of becoming the most profitable
supersportscar manufacturer, the most attractive employer and the most
attractive brand in its market.

"There has been work performed by a sub-standard shop in the industry who was installing upgrades on Lamborghini's primarily in the New York - Tri-State Area.

FOREST HILL EXOTIC PERFORMANCE, owned by Ron & Chris Brown, were well known for upgrades to Lamborghini's and other Exotics in the tri-state area for years. More recently it has surfaced that they acted in a very unorthodox manner including scamming and defrauding customers. They are currently under investigation both on a County and Federal level.

Well today as I walked into work I was confronted by the 2 Lambo techs who walked me in the shop to show me a 2008 Lamborghini Superleggera previously owned by Ricky Henner. All I have to say is WOW ! Ricky, thankfully you and your wife are safe! Another BUTCHER job by Forest Hill Exotic Performance.

The vehicle was being moved and the brake pedal went to the floor, it seems that the factory washers that are used when the brake line is attached to caliper was gone. As a result the brake fluid leaked and destroyed the paint on the back of the caliper and soaked the undercarriage. Furthermore the paint used is the wrong paint and by no means can withstand the heat that is generated by a braking system.

Our service department had to remove all the calipers and grind down the paint in the fitting and then use new washers and re-attach the brake lines, bleed and fill the system.

ANYONE who has had this service performed by FOREST HILL EXOTIC PERFORMANCE needs to have this fixed immediately!!!

It is an EXTREMELY dangerous and potentially fatal problem.

If anyone knows Boris - Hovik, I know you do, call him immediately and have him get that fixed, if anyone knows of anyone else with aftermarket painted calipers by this shop - call them - YOU JUST MAY SAVE THEIR LIVES!"

Lamborghini presents highly individualized super sports cars
at the Detroit Auto Show
Sant’Agata Bolognese/Detroit, 11th January 2009 - Alongside the new Gallardo LP
560-4 Spyder, Lamborghini will present two exclusive, highly individualized super
sports cars at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. With a unique, matt-luster paint finish in
matt blue and all available special equipment options, this Murciélago LP 640 and
Gallardo LP 560-4 demonstrate the virtually limitless possibilities and expert
craftsmanship presented through the Ad Personam individualization program by the
specialists in Sant’Agata Bolognese.
.
“Ad Personam offers every Lamborghini customer the opportunity to acquire a
completely exclusive vehicle from a unique brand – one that is perfectly in tune with
their own lifestyle,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili
Lamborghini. “A super sports car from Lamborghini is always a fundamental
expression of the buyer’s personality. And that is why the highest levels of
exclusivity are possible, right through to absolute one-of-a-kind Lamborghini
vehicles.”
“Think the impossible” is the motto of the Lamborghini individualization program.
Ad Personam offers a host of possibilities to bring a highly individual style to the
exterior and the interior of a Lamborghini – all the way through to a Lamborghini
like no other.
A unique color for a unique design
Both super sports cars presented in Detroit are such highly individualized examples–
painted in matt blue, an all-new, powerful blue tone with a matt-luster finish.
Dressed like this, the Murciélago and the Gallardo are elegant and refined, yet
extremely powerful and dynamic. This is a unique color that fits perfectly to the
unique design of a Lamborghini.
The super sports car brand from Sant’Agata Bolognese is the only auto maker to
have mastered the difficult and complex craftsmanship required to work with the
matt-luster paint finish. Alongside the new matt blue three more colors are
permanently available in the Ad Personam program: Nero Nemesis is a matt-luster
black, while the matt white is called Bianco Canopus; and Marrone Apus refers to
the particularly elegant matt brown finish. In addition, Lamborghini Ad Personam
offers its customers complete freedom to choose any color imaginable.
Luxuriously sporty or classically powerful
In their interiors, too, the highly individualized super sports cars presented in Detroit
provide a clear example of the possibilities offered by the Ad Personam program. The
base color applied to the upholstery of both vehicles is black, with color contrast
supplied by fine diamond stitching in the blue of the exterior paintwork. This is
applied to the seats, door trim, headliner and the steering wheel. The leather
upholstery lends a luxuriously sporty look and feel to the Gallardo LP 560-4.
Furthermore, the Gallardo LP560-4 shows the finest in Nappa leather in color Nero
Perseus which clads not only the seats, cockpit and door trim, but also the pillars and
headliners. Further accents are provided courtesy of individual elements crafted in
carbon fiber. The Callisto wheels are painted in high-gloss black, providing a contrast
to the matt blue paint finish.
The Lamborghini Murciélago LP 640 is one of the most fascinating super sports cars
of all time, and underscores this in Detroit with a purist interior finished in Alcantara
® with diamond stitching. Not only are the sports seats upholstered in Alcantara ®,
but also the entire interior, including doors and headliner. The cockpit surround is
finished in carbon fiber. The steering wheel features stitched suede and carbon fiber
inlays. The high-gloss black of the Murciélago’s wheels – in Hermera design – also
delivers the perfect contrast to the matt blue exterior paintwork.
An inexhaustible range
Ad Personam offers an inexhaustible range possibilities for bringing a completely
unique style to the interior and exterior of every Lamborghini. The color and trim
designers from Sant’Agata Bolognese have also created exceptionally exclusive
equipment offerings for the entire product range. The extended leather finish, for
example, enables the allure of the first-class natural product to be raised even
further. Only the very finest quality leathers are used. The seats alone offer infinite
possibilities through a vast range of color options for leather and Alcantara ®, twotone
contrasts, material mixes, stitching and piping in contrasting colors, as well as
the diamond-stitched pattern of the seat squabs, known as Q-citura.
The exceptionally hi-tech carbon fiber material provides a hint of the racetrack, with
elements such as the control panel for the air conditioning and the hand brake
boasting a carbon fiber finish. Further finishing touches for personalizing the exterior
include an extended range of wheel options and brake calipers in yellow and silver.
Within applicable vehicles, Lamborghini can comply with virtually any customer’s
desire in vehicle individualization. The boundaries are set, however, by Lamborghini’s
own quality demands, which apply to all modifications carried out. When a new
Lamborghini exactly meets personal expectations in terms of colors, materials and
trim, then aesthetic perfection has been achieved.

- Strong growth in Middle Eastern and major Asian Markets
- Strongest growth in China
- European Sales stable with growth in Italy and France
- No abandoning of long-term strategic and product plans
In spite of worldwide financial and economic turmoil, Automobili Lamborghini
S.p.A. has delivered another historically very strong year in 2008. The Italian
luxury sportscar manufacturer increased unit sales from 2406 to 2430. This
means a growth of 1%.
Weaknesses in major traditional markets where more than offset by growth in
other markets as well as in new and emerging markets.
The US market saw a decrease of 20.3% with 741 units sold instead of 930 the
year before. The US share of worldwide sales decreased from 38.7 to 30.5%. In
Europe, sales remained stable. While traditional markets like Germany and the UK
showed relatively small single digit decreases, sales in the Italian homeland of the
brand of longstanding tradition increased by 10% to 230 units sold. This sales
growth pushed Italy into the position of second largest market in the world. Good
performances were also recorded in France, which showed growth rates of 27%.
The strongest growth rates were achieved in the Middle Eastern and Far Eastern
Asian core markets. The Middle Eastern region achieved a sales increase of 66%
from 100 to 166 units sold. In the Far East, China more than doubled its sales
from 28 to 72 units sold with an increase of 157%. Additionally, Hong Kong and
South Korea showed high triple digit growth rates of 120 and more than 100%.
The worldwide share of the Middle Eastern and Far Asian sales increased from
15.0 to 21.8%.
“In the light of worldwide economic insecurities and sluggish car markets, this
new record year above all proves the sustainability of our business strategy. We
know that there are tough times ahead now, but we have increased the value and
attractiveness of our luxury brand in so many facets that we are ready to take on
whatever challenges the future might bring us”, said Lamborghini President and
CEO Stephan Winkelmann.
With the youngest and most attractive product line-up in the company’s 46-year
old history, with one new model launched every year, with the consistent
expansion into new markets of the highest potential like the Middle East and Asia,
Automobili Lamborghini has managed to show a strong above-market growth
rate in recent years.
The company’s development marks one of the most respected turn-around
projects in the automotive and luxury industries. Amongst other factors like a
very positive brand image development the workforce has strongly increased in
only four years.
Long before approaching 2009, the company has taken decisive steps to be well
prepared for volatility in demand. Production flexibility is made possible by
cooperative concepts developed with the union representatives. Besides flexible
working hours, it is agreed to also encompass the option to change work time
into training and qualification projects.
Lamborghini does not abandon its long-term strategy. Investment into R&D will
not be reduced, as there will be ongoing expansion of the brand presence on a
worldwide scale. The company sticks to its development of one new model each
year. The latest example of this confidence is the announcement of the new
Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder LP 560-4. Lamborghini is confident to become the
most profitable luxury sportscar manufacturer, the most attractive employer in
its segment.

Ah... Even Lamborghini can't stave off the Malaise. At least they saw a huge profit last year. So I should think it's in a good shape. At least it'll be fine and dandy in the Middle Eastern markets?

I wouldn't be so sure about that. At all.
The middle east is just a few quarters behind the curve, with big spending being dramatically curtailed. Surely not an environment conducive to increased car sales.

Found this really interesting:

Sant’Agata Bolognese, 20.02.2009 - Lamborghini has announced its new
Lamborghini Academy dates for 2009. With courses open to all sports car
enthusiasts as well as Lamborghini owners, the track driving schools provide an
extraordinary opportunity to experience the full potential of Lamborghini cars,
alongside the Italian super sports car manufacturer’s professional instructors.
The Track Academy course provides an entry into the Lamborghini Academy
world. Held at various European race tracks from Spring 2009 onwards,
participants’ driving skills are improved alongside a professional driver instructor,
while exploring the full potential of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4.
The Advanced Academy is the top level programme, and concentrates on optimum

All classes include technical and safety briefings, followed by handling and

track driving! Participants improve their handling and feel of Lamborghini’s
permanent four-wheel drive cars, learn to manage understeer and oversteer;

action of the day on the race track.
Lamborghini Academy courses start from 3,900.00 euro, including accommodation,
cars at the race track and all driving instruction, but excluding travel. For full details,

- Total turnover increased in challenging economic conditions to
Euro 478,8 Mio. (+2,5%)
- Profits rise to Euro 60 Mio. (+27,4%)
- Sales up: 2430 units sold worldwide (+1%)
- Strong growth in Middle Eastern and major Asian markets,
strongest growth in China
- Maintenance of long-term strategy and investments
Sant‘ Agata Bolognese (Italy), April 15th, 2009. In spite of world-wide financial
and economic turmoil, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. delivered another
successful year in 2008. In all key business indicators such as deliveries and
profits, the Italian luxury sportscar manufacturer exceeded the already
remarkable previous year.
Turnover increased from Euro 467,1 Mio. to Euro 478,8 Mio in 2008 (+2,5%).
Pretax profits rose from Euro 47,1 Mio. to Euro 60,0 Mio, marking an
exponential increase of 27,4%. The profit margin increased from 10,1% to 12,5%.
The brand with the raging bull logo improved sales from 2406 to 2430 units.
Commenting on the results, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini,
Stephan Winkelmann, said: “With this new record in deliveries and profits we
have marked the most successful fiscal year in the history of our company. The
worldwide economic climate, especially regarding luxury markets, has changed
dramatically. However, Lamborghini’s stronghold in global presence and brand
appeal will enable us to steer Lamborghini through challenging times.”
On the sales side, weaknesses in major traditional regions were offset by growth
in other areas as well as in new and emerging markets. The US market saw a
decrease of 20,3% with 741 units sold compared to the 930 sold the year before.
The US share of world-wide sales decreased from 38,7% to 30,5%.
n Europe, sales remained stable. While traditional markets such as Germany
and the UK showed relatively small single digit decreases, sales in the Italian
brand’s homeland increased from 209 to 230 units (+10%). This sales growth
pushed Italy into the position of second largest world market.
Strong growth rates were achieved in the Middle East and Far East Asian core
markets. The Middle Eastern region – particularly the United Arab Emirates –
achieved a sales increase of 66% from 100 to 166 units sold. In the Far East,
China more than doubled its sales from 28 to 72 units sold. The Middle East and
Far East regions grew their contribution to Lamborghini’s total worldwide sales
from 15% to 21,8%.
The 2008 success in deliveries and profits was due to the consistent expansion
of brand presence and dealerships worldwide. More than that, the marque has
the most attractive model line-up ever, augmented by the launch of the
Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Coupé. Increasing brand and product
awareness as well as the innate and rising brand value are also key factors in
the company’s success.
The company´s development marks one of the most respected company
turn-around programmes in the automotive and luxury industries.
“In the light of world-wide economic uncertainties, this new record year above
all proves the sustainability of our business strategy. We know that there are
tough times ahead now, but we have increased the value and appeal of our
luxury brand and we are ready to take on the challenges the future might bring
us. We are confident we will come out of this challenge stronger than we went
into it,” said Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann.
Outlook for 2009
Even as a low volume luxury car manufacturer, Automobili Lamborghini is not
unaffected by the present economic downturn in the wake of the global
financial crisis.
The goal is to lead the company through the difficult phase safely by applying
the strictest discipline to managing investments and current costs,
systematically adjusting production to reflect market developments.
Before approaching 2009, the company took decisive steps to be well prepared
for volatility in demand.
Production flexibility is made possible by working within contractual
agreements and with the full support of the trade unions. The company has also
enhanced and improved its professional training and qualifying courses
The company has announced short-time work for 300 of its 1000 employees in
some weeks from February to May and does not rule out making further use of
this tool.
Lamborghini remains with its long-term strategy. Investment into R&D will
continue. The company sticks to its commitment of announcing at least one
new product each year. The latest examples of this confidence are the launch of
the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder and the Murciélago LP 670-4
Superveloce. The new Spyder is the convertible version of the record-selling
Gallardo LP 560-4 Coupé and is now being launched in all markets. The
Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, recently presented at the last Geneva
motorshow, has already commanded a promising order bank and will first
reach markets in the next weeks.
In the current 2009 year, Automobili Lamborghini is not in a position to make a
full year forecast, but the overall target for the 2009 financial year is to attain
an overall profit.

Automobili Lamborghini confirms commitment to China, with Shanghai motor show and new showroom opening in Chengdu.
Shanghai/Sant’Agata Bolognese 20th April 2009 – Automobili Lamborghini launched
its new Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce to the Chinese market today at Shanghai
motor show. The Italian marque’s Shanghai motor show presence follows the official
opening on Friday 17 April of Lamborghini’s fourth showroom in China.
“China becomes an always more important market for Lamborghini, even in light of
a challenging worldwide economic situation that affects everybody,” said
Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann. “China is one of the largest
potential markets for our company: Lamborghini and its dealer partners benefit
from an established and respected luxury brand, in this region as in our other
markets, and we continue to invest in our customers and the marque’s future via
appropriate strategic growth.”
The new Chengdu showroom in Sichuan Province has been opened by Chengdu
Sanhe Enterprise Group Co. Ltd at its extensive Sanhe Group premises on the
Singapore Industrial Park. “For Chengdu as well as for Sanhe Group this investment
creates a significant automotive development, and we are delighted to represent
this fascinating brand,” said Sanhe Group Chairman Zongmin Huang.
“Our development strategy within China has been consistent, including the
establishment of Automobili Lamborghini China in 2008,” confirms Stephan
Winkelmann. “As part of our plan to enlarge our dealer network coverage, the
Chengdu opening represents a pivotal step and, similarly, we consider the Shanghai
show an opportunity to show new Lamborghini models to one of our most
significant potential markets. “

28 units in 2007, with a growth rate of 157%. Automobili Lamborghini currently has
four operating dealers in mainland China, located in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou
and Chengdu, and one is also operating in Hong Kong. Three other dealers will be
opened in 2009: one in Hangzhou, one in Xiamen and one in Shenzhen.

LAMBORGHINI ANNOUNCES NEW, AMBITIOUS PROGRAMS
FOR REDUCING CO2
• 35 million Euros investments
• The construction of a large photovoltaic plant, combined with an energysaving
project, will achieve a 30% reduction in the factory’s CO2
emissions by 2010
• Modifications to vehicles will result in a 35% reduction in CO2
emissions by 2015
Sant’Agata Bolognese, 7 June 2009 – Automobili Lamborghini announces its
intention to complete its program of environmental sustainability in record time by
presenting new plans which will enable the company:
• to achieve a 30% reduction, by the year 2010, in the CO2 emissions produced
by its factory
• to achieve a 35% reduction, by the year 2015, in the CO2 emissions
produced by its vehicles
The plans for reducing emissions will thus involve two areas: modifications to the
Lamborghini factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese, and development in vehicle design.
To redefine its industrial processes in accordance with its policy of environmental
sustainability, Lamborghini has just begun a project to complete installation of a large
photovoltaic system by the end of 2009.
The roof-top plant will produce 1,582 Megawatt hour (MWh) of "green" energy per
year, which translates into a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions (-
1,067,820 Kg/year) by 2010.
The photovoltaic systems will have a total installed power rating of
1,4 Megawatts and will extend over 17,000 m2 throughout the entire industrial area.
The new system will be built by Sinergia Sistemi S.p.A.
At the same time, an equally important energy conservation project involving
insulating the production facility’s whole roof, improving lighting and heating and
introducing destratification systems for heated air will be completed, thus resulting in
a 10% energy usage reduction by 2010.
These projects represent the next step in a program that began last year with the
opening of the new Lamborghini
Logistics Center. The Center has already contributed to diminishing the impact
caused by heavy truck traffic on the roads between Anzola and Sant’Agata Bolognese.
It is calculated that this facility has achieved a reduction of emissions by over 75 kg
per annum, and nitrogen oxide by over 750 kg (Sources: Standard Euro 3).
In April 2009 Lamborghini obtained the UNI EN ISO 14001 certificate, meeting
the international environmental standards. It is also the first firm in the Italian
automotive sector to be close to registering for the EMAS environment certificate,
having successfully completed the program: EMAS regulations are set by the
European Union to support organisations in their effort to evaluate and improve
their own environmental efficiency.
These recent achievements support Lamborghini’s commitment to protecting the
environment in which it operates, and its desire to make all stakeholders aware of
its actions in a transparent manner.
With regard to Lamborghini vehicles, the CO2 reduction plan aims for an additional
35% decrease in emissions by the year 2015.
The program reached its first milestone with the Gallardo LP 560-4. Introduced
last year, the new car’s technical advancements resulted in an 18% reduction in CO2
emissions.
At this point, Research & Development activities will continue in the following
directions:
- decreasing vehicle mass
- improving combustion
- reducing friction
- Start-and-Stop systems
- hybrid drive train solutions
- biofuels
Lamborghini’s commitment and its sense of social responsibility regarding the
environment is evidenced by the numbers and by the sheer size of the investments
that are planned. 35 million Euros will be appropriated over the next five years for
this purpose.
Stephan Winkelmann, the President and CEO of Lamborghini, has said, "Despite
the difficult situation in today's global economy, Lamborghini is committed to its
policy of environmental management, since we are well aware of the great
opportunities that derive from it. We have an objective to reduce CO2 emissions to
the greatest possible degree. We have also set compulsory annual goals that are part
of an integrated approach both considering the automobile as an element which is
more considerate of the environment, in terms of emissions and the use of
resources, to the accomplishment of a series of corresponding measures such as
modifications to our factory. This is an important action for Lamborghini and a
central opportunity for our long term corporate and product development.”
European Parliamentarian Guido Sacconi, President of the European Commission
on Climate Change, recently paid a visit to Lamborghini headquarters in Sant’Agata.
At that time, he said that, "The commitment shown by Lamborghini with its efforts
to reduce environmental impact and develop vehicles with less polluting
technologies confirm the company's goal of following the right path toward
complying with the directives of the European Union. To safeguard the DNA,
history and technology of niche car manufacturers on a European level, a series of
exceptions have been passed for manufactures of 'specialty' vehicles (with fewer
than 10,000 new cars made per year) who run their own production facilities and
design centres, even though they are part of a group of associated producers. This is
the exact situation in which Lamborghini finds itself. We have been particularly
satisfied with the actions it has taken thus far, because they illustrate this company's
desire to embrace a new industrial vision which combines competitiveness and
performance with social responsibility.”

31/07/2009 Automobili Lamborghini maintains profitability and sustains strategic product and technological investments

- Profit before tax reaches 5.4 Million Euros
- First half financial year 2009: worldwide deliveries decrease by 37%
- Italy resists weakness of other key European Markets
- China with growing sales
- Maintenance of long-term strategy and investments

After several consecutive record years, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. reports a decrease in worldwide sales for the first six months of the financial year 2009 (which ends 31/12/2009). In spite of the massive economic downturn in Lamborghini´s major markets the company is still among the few car companies maintaining overall profitability.

In the first six months of 2009, turnover reached 156.9 Million Euros, with a decrease of 43.4% compared to the same period of 2008 (277.4 Million Euros). Pre-tax profit was 5.4 Million Euros in comparison to 35.0 Million Euros in the first six months of 2008.

In terms of sales, the company delivered 825 cars: a reduction of 37% compared to the same period of 2008 with sales of 1.309 cars.

As expected, the markets showing the sharpest decline are those economies worst hit by the deep worldwide recession. Consequently, Lamborghini sales volumes saw the most substantial downturn in the USA, falling by 52% from 431 to 207 units sold.

Some markets’ sales figures however, counteract the trend. In Europe, the second largest market, Italy, accounted for 122 units, nearly on a par with the first six months’ performance of 2008 when 130 Lamborghini cars were sold.

Switzerland maintained stability with 49 units sold, compared with 51 units in 2008. The same holds true for France with 37 units sold (43 in the first half of 2008).

Beyond Europe, there are clear signs of sales stability in the Middle East, which presently is the fourth largest market in the world for Lamborghini (61 units sold against 79 in the first half of 2008) and in China, which has achieved a sales growth of 32% (29 units sold in the first half of 2009 against 22 in the first six months of 2008).

Some major European markets showed decreases: Germany down 52.0%, and the UK down 46.6%.

The President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann, commented, “As was expected, we are not immune to the global recession. However, I am certain that Lamborghini’s strong global presence and brand appeal, which remains unaffected, will enable us to steer the company through challenging times to achieve new strengths. Our business strategy continues to be driven by two fundamental principles that allow us to react to the present economic situation and preserve the success of our brand. Firstly, we will maintain the profitability of the company, a target confirmed by the results of the first six months of 2009. Secondly we continue our investment into the future with product technology and innovation alongside a firm ecological stance.”

Lamborghini remains with its long-term strategy, with a commitment to announcing at least one new product each year.

The latest examples of this confidence are the launch of the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder, the Murciélago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, and the new Gallardo LP 550-2 Valentino Balboni: the first rear wheel drive Gallardo, celebrating the famous Lamborghini test driver, Valentino Balboni.

Investments into R&D and into reduction of CO2 emissions will continue as planned, resulting in continuing technology and product innovation. The company has recently announced its intention to complete its program of environmental sustainability in record time by presenting new plans which will enable Lamborghini to:

- achieve a 30% reduction, by the year 2010, in the CO2 emissions produced by its factory
- achieve a 35% reduction, by the year 2015, in the CO2 emissions produced by its vehicles

Lamborghini will commit 35 million Euros over the next five years for this purpose.

For the full year 2009, the company is not giving a definitive business forecast due to continuing market instabilities. However, Lamborghini is confident of also attaining a full year profit, thus remaining one of the few profitable companies in the industry.
