Quick Inspection: '32 Ford three-window coupe

POWERTRAIN
Engine: The boosted five-cylinder is a 2.3L B5234T from a '94 Volvo 850 T-5R. Internally, it has a balanced stock crank, SPM H-beam rods, and JE 8.5:1 pistons. Up top, the SOCO Racing-ported head runs cams from a '92 Volvo GLT. The ported Garrett GT3071R ball bearing turbo uses an adjustable KL Racing 50mm wastegate, a '94 Volvo T5 boost control valve, and it blows through a custom intercooler built by Tomas into a stock Volvo throttle body mated to a '98 Volvo V70 intake. Exhaust flow comes from a custom stainless header and exhaust system designed by Tomas consisting of a 3-inch downpipe that splits into dual 2-inch pipes and handmade 2x2-inch mufflers. Fuel comes via Delphi 525cc injectors, a '94 Volvo T-5R fuel pressure regulator, and a Bosch 044 fuel pump. Nira i3 engine management controls everything.

Power: We don't have dyno numbers, but we do know it'll do 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in about 3.76 seconds and will cover 402 meters (1,318 feet, 2 feet shy of a quarter-mile) in 11.85 seconds at 196km/h (121.78 mph).

Transmission: An MT75 five-speed from a '91 Ford Cosworth Sierra 4x4 with a custom billet mounting flange was paired with a lightened '98 Volvo V70 flywheel, a '91 Audi S2 pressure plate, and an AP Racing four-paddle sintered drive plate.

Rearend: Both differentials are from a '91 Ford Cosworth Sierra.

CHASSIS
Frame: The body rides on a seamless stainless steel tube chassis designed and built by Tomas.

Suspension: Tomas also crafted the front suspension with triangulated A-arms, pushrod-actuated Ohlins shocks with remote oil reservoirs, and '86 Saab 900 spindles. The rear was cobbled from '99 Chevy Transporter spindles with '89 Corvette hubs and Ohlins shocks.

Check out Tomas at the wheel of his creation. He wouldn't let us drive it.

Brakes: 330mm AP Racing discs are fitted with four-piston calipers and Mintex pads up front, while the rear gets 295mm discs. A Wilwood master cylinder and Hydroscand steel braided lines provide pressure.

Wheels: 17-inch knock-offs from Speedline Corse are cast magnesium rally equipment used on a '91 to '92 DTM Mercedes.

Tires: 255/40R17 Toyo Proxes R888s stick all four corners.

STYLE
Body: The 4.5-inch-chopped '32 Ford three-window coupe is a 3mm-thick fiberglass tub custom-formed to fit the tube chassis and mini-tubbed for wheel clearance. The firewall and floor are actually double layers of 1mm aluminum sandwiching a layer of undercoating and a 1mm plastic sheet for insulation. The hood and hood sides were shaped out of aluminum by Tomas.

Paint: PPG's blackest black was applied by a painter known only as Hrstorparn. Very few know the guy's real name, and Tomas is not one of them.

Interior: The nothing-but-the-necessities interior has an aluminum instrument panel with an Auto Meter Super Comp 5-inch tach and VDO temp and oil gauges. Believe it or not, a Speedmaster 7000 bicycle computer is used for speed, max speed, and average speed. Cobra Suzuka race buckets with Sabelt four-point belts hold Tomas in place while gripping the '83 240 Volvo R-Sport steering wheel on a '98 Mitsubishi Space Runner tilt column. The trick shifter is actually made from a scrapped OttoBoc titanium artificial lower leg intended for kids and topped with a '79 VW Golf shift knob. Tomas built the 40L aluminum tank with a Ducati 916 level gauge. The slide-able side windows are 5mm glass with regulators from an old Mini Cooper.

check out the new mags, they're building a handling oriented Ford from a new kit. I think its by factory five but not sure, supposed to be sort of the same direction that this build went in but its all off the shelf stuff.
