Default Top Gear : S8 EP5 : 4th June, 2006 - Discussion

With World Cup fever under way, there's an epic contest as the Toyota Aygos are pitted against the very toughest of opponents - a team of VW Foxes, built in Brazil. Jeremy finds out whether the suspension on the new Citroen C6 is all it's cracked up to be, and the Star in the Reasonably Priced Car is Oscar-winning screenwriter and actor, Julian Fellowes.
The World Cup break isn't on just yet.

I'll post a more detailed preview as soon as it becomes available.

Wasn't Ewan McGregor supposed to be the Star in the reasonably priced car a week or so back? Whatever happened with that?

More detailed preview of the episode

** Spoiler Warning **

Spin, doctor!
Racing car company Prodrive is normally associated with Subaru World Rally cars, but the firm has put all of its talents on show in a two-seat sports car, called the P2. Jeremy puts the pint-sized pretender through its paces on the track, but the big man is left feeling sick as a parrot as he takes one turn too many...

And here is the news...
As you'd expect, Jeremy, Richard and James have plenty to say about this week's hottest topics. Suffering from severe nicotine withdrawal symptoms, Jeremy lays into everyone and everything, while the team look at the latest new models from Ford and Audi. Oh, and the biggest independent car satisfaction survey is back - but the boys need your help.

When James met Jackie
Top Gear decided to make Captain Slow into Captain Quick with the aid of Formula One legend Sir Jackie Stewart. And the three-time world champ has just one day to give James the tips he needs to lop 20 seconds off his pace around Oulton Park in a TVR Tuscan.

Pottering about
Sir Michael Gambon, aka Dumbledore, is this week's Star in a Reasonably Priced Car (sadly, it's not a flying Ford Anglia). Will the actor enchant the crowds with a, er, magic performance? Tune in on Sunday to find out.

Odds-on favourite
For years, the BBC used an old Citroen CX to film all its horse racing coverage. To find out if the new C6 is as soft riding, Jeremy took it to a race meeting and strapped a camera to the roof. Let's hope the punters aren't put out by this French thoroughbred.

Style counsel
The Citroen C6, Porsche's 911 Turbo, Aston's V8 and the new Peugeot 207 all make an appearance on the Cool Wall this week. All French superminis are cool, says Jeremy, but will the new Pug make the grade?

Also this is the last episode before the big break and TG will be back after the World Cup in July.

The "star" was Gambon

Clarkson made another "mistake" today when, while describing what Prodrive did "in motorsport", forgot to mention runing the Ferrari 550 in FIA GT champ and wining, even when Ferrari got interested and got involved with some factory backed 575 that were beaten by the "older" and "privateer" Prodrive 550. Considering that some Prodrive 550 were still runing last year in US...I can say that this program was the most succesful for them...i.e. beating Ferrari at their own game...

did not thought it would be hapening but started to follow the Fifth Gear also...

Never compare Top Gear to crap (5th) Gear Top Gear is simply in a different league in terms of entertainment and fun! 5th Gear is just a poor copy of TG. They even ask celebritys which show is better. How frustrated can somebody be if he needs to ask such a question The ONLY really good 5th Gear feature of this season has been the B7 RS4 vs M3 CS comparison IMO.
