So what did Bellof pull off really - he did well in one race in Monaco and was reputed to be a future WDC in the making. But that doesnt make him a Nuvolari who pulled several giant killing feats in a career spanning 30 years winning championships in both bikes and cars.

With Bellof we are dwelling on what might be as he didnt stay in F1 long enough to leave a real mark. But the others I listed did leave their mark in F1 and GP history.

bellof wasn't just a GP driver... but the fastest group c driver as well... even past GP champs couldn't challenge him.

oh, and he did better in quite a few races... but the powers that be later disqualified the cars etc.

i do agree that he was destined to be a future grand prix world champion; but he already had tremendous racing success.

he set so many track records in his time... sure they are all smashed now (except of course 6:11 @ NS) but look at where we are 20+ years since then... his is a more exceptional challenge then saying that Zenardi is tallented, but had bad luck...

everwhere this guy went, his laptimes stunned the fastest drivers of the day, and the greatest teams of the day.

I read a great article on Ricardo and Pedro Rodriguez. They said that Ricardo was the born genius with a natural feel and speed. Pedro took to racing as a hobby. He wasn't as good at it like his younger brother.

But then Ricardo started taking more and risks as he tried to force into wins and that led to his demise from pushing too hard too soon. Pedro later took racing more seriously and become a superb sports car pilot. He too got killed at the wheel.

Sorry to dissapoint you all but Schumaher is the best "driver" ever.

Fangio, Senna, they had charisma and personality and they were great drivers, but Schumaher is simply THE best "driver".

The guy is like a robot, he drives amazingly, adapts to different sitatuations fast and knows his car as well as his engineer.

He will never be the "peoples champion" he doesnt have the looks or the charisma, but from a pure driving and technical point of view he is the best we will ever see.

im a big shumacher fan myself... for many reasons.

Malcom, the renault engineer i chatted with earlier this year had some very interesting things to say about michael.... for one, if he has a good top 3 car... he probobly will win this year.

two... no other driver now, or in the forseable future has the multitasking abilities of MS...
as you said, he is extremely knowlegable about his car... as much as many of the engineers making the cars for him. his multi-ligual skills are far above that of any of the current drivers. if he had live feeding telemetry to his car on a HUD... he would be able to interpret it into creating the ultimate lap for an entire race.... which he nearly does anyway

malcom disagrees that MS seems robotic...
i would definately agree, particularly when comparing him against Kimi

That's your opinion and not a fact.

People can throw all the facts they want to re-assure themselves that driver X is the best...

But in the final analysis, comparing drivers from the 30s to today will never be an exact science and is just conjecture... Meaning your opinion is as valid or invalid as anyone else's
