Default AMD buys ATI for $5.5 Billion USD!

Wow thats alot of money.
Now this is a huge impact on the gaming industry!

Most people say that AMD is the best processsor to use when gaming and ATI are the best graphics cards to use when gaming so this is just fliping sweet!

Except ATI is not the best graphics supplier..

AMD need a foot in the door to get more server based sales... ATI is the dominant server graphics chip

Best in what sense? Their products have been faster and more innovative than nVidia's for more than a couple of generations.

Sorry but that is not born out in actual real life performance. Just cause Tom's Hardware says ATI is better doesn't make it so.

ATI may sell more crap overseas, but point for point price for price and spec for spec nVidia makes better graphics cards, better drivers and over all better end user experience - period.

Nvidia's latest has trumped anything ATI currently has out I believe. ATI were on top for a while, but the natural order of things has been restored for now

That's Bullcrap. ATI has, since the 9700Pro, made cards that are faster, generation-for-generation, than nVidia, and anyone who isn't a fanboy will tell you the same. ATI used to have MAJOR quality issues and HUGE problems with their Drivers, but that has, for the most part, been ironed out, and as long as you find a Driver that works and don't try and eek every last drop of performance from the card by switching Drivers to the latest set all of the time, the cards will do everything that you need them to, and more. One area that ATI have dropped the ball on though is their Crossfire technology, as nVidia have done so much better with their Sli that it's almost like night and day. ATI's choice to require a bridge card was, in retrospect, a very poor choice.

Oh, Tom's Hardware is very, very well-known for being exceptionally biased: hence why I never read it, or take it's opinions into consideration.

GeForce 7950 GX2 (dual GPU) is the best performing consumer card (in terms of actual gaming benchmarks) I can find, beating even ATI's 1900 XT handily, especially at high-resolution. There is the 1900 XTX, ATI's fastest card, but I've seen comparisons of it versus a 7900 GT SLI setup, and the SLI was faster, and since the 7950 GX2 is faster than a 7900 GT SLI (which I've also seen compared), the 7950 GX2 seems to be king of the heap for now.

This card also brings quad-GPU-SLI into play, even though the performance of such a setup will more than likely be capped by other components of your system.

I will disagree.

I have been an nvidia fan a long long time.

But from work experiance and personal ATI is better, faster product.

What nvidia has is more toys, more features, they are ahead in that sense.

But as far as perfomance and image quality goes ATI wins.

Be it x850 Vs 6800

or a cheapo 9600 Vs 5800 or whatever.

Even when I had my ti4600 I noticed that the ATIs we had at work where significantly better IQ.

Same with current line.

And same story with perfomance. Unless a game is nvidia optimized like Doom 3 ATI is always faster.

Just like my 850 is quite a bit faster then all the people with 6800s on racesimcentral, from GTR,GTL to Rfactor.

Nvidia does have better drivers, and they update them quite often, if one thing I do miss about nvidia thats drivers.

Otherwise Ill be sticking to ATI.

Stable, solid, great IQ fast product.

Bullshit man. Sure CURRENT top of the line NVIDIA is ahead.

Does that make it a better product? Fuck no.

When things settle a bit and even out then we can look at it again.

I personaly, when comparing brand on who is better etc think that you can not look at anything newer then 6 month. Cause it just doesnt give the right picture.

Since the 9700 like already mentioned ATI was making the better product.

Only lately NVIDIA caught up.

Once they hold that spot for SOME TIME then Ill say its better.

And fanboys suck donkey nuts.

I personaly dont give a shit. I buy whatever is the best at the moment.

NVIDIA has made great mid range products. And thats what I used to stick to. I got a 4200TI and OCed it past 4600TI spec. I had a 6600GT running way past its spec, but I only had the card a few months.

But even when i had those cards, the equivilent ATIs had better IQ and better FPS.

Considering all I said was 'currently' that's obviously all I was talking about, the X1900 XTX vs. 7950 GX2. Until ATI comes out with a dual-GPU card that uses their top of the line GPU, Nvidia will be on top, especially with 'quad' SLI.

PS. Chill the fuck out, it's just a videocard.

Well - I have tried to switch at each generation step and ATI has screwed me on drivers and compatability each time - so I keep going back to nVidia.

Whats the point of screaming numbers if you can't upgrade to their hardware or get proper driver support?

Every ATI card I had had PC side has been taken back the first week due to overheating, driver issues of incompatibility.

All the servers run ATI so thats a no-brainer, but personal experience has proven to me ATI is as shit as always, and when you drop $500 or $600 on a video card, the least you can expect is for it to work ou tthe box.

They wont be saying that for much longer as Intel Conroe rapes anything and everything that AMD has to offer.
