3 years ago today, the greatest boxing match in history...
Single greatest fight of all time. The entire fight was an absolute phone booth war. Both men were hurt significantly in different rounds. Every time it looked like it was over, there would be another, more brutal, torrent of punishment.
And then the 10th round.
Watching the fight it was clear neither man would ever be the same. That kind of sustained physical brutality changes a man. They fought one more time with Castillo winning a controversial KO after he couldn't make weight, and their third fight was canceled for the same reason.
Castillo ended up getting sued, losing huge sums to promoters, and never won a significant fight again.
Corrales never had his hand raised in the ring again, endured some personal troubles, and was killed when he crashed his GSXR into the back of a car at high speed. He said you'd have to kill him before he'd ever quit, and he meant it.
