Which makes you wonder then, if they had a goo didea HD-DVD would lose in the end, why waste time and money backing it at all?

MS backed it, but they were smart to keep HD-DVD as an add-on to the 360 not only for insurance, but to keep costs down.

Either way, glad blu ray won.. it will be nice when 50gb discs become cheap and blu ray drives are the norm.

I was thinking that it just allow them to price their consoles more competitively. The probably had an idea that this will turn out like the beta VHS war (unlike the DVD+/-R)

XBox Live is advertising a new low price for the HD-DVD add on plus 5 HD-DVD's. They must figure their demographic doesn't read the news. Pretty pathetic attempt. $129.99 is still too expensive for a dead format.

Yeah, that was their original rational, but I think if they built it in like the PS3, I think they would've sold less consoles but at the same time it would've placed more HD DVD players out there.

For example the PS3, Sony bet the farm on it, and they won out. And regardless of how cheap HD DVD stand alone players got, there were still some 10 million Blu-Ray players out there. And even if just some of them pick up a movie or two, that would still be a lot of movies.

I am still surprised that Toshiba didn't see that WB decision coming at all.

And RC45, there's always that conspiracy theory that MS and Intel wanted to prolong the war as long as possible to let Digital downloads be the main medium.

As it turns out, it is a heat cycle problem, not specifically overheating... having adequate air circulation reduced the extremes in which the heat cycle can reach... but heat itself doesn't do the damage...

Yeah looks like their Animation Studio only though. Paramount and Dreamworks are dropping HD DVD cold turkey and canceling all future releases. Ironic how WB was the first studio to drop out, but reminds committed to releasing up until June.

I doubt that Toshiba will be asses and not let them out of the contract.

I wouldn't doubt it, if there is any form of profit involved!
