Default Top Gear - S10 EP4 - 4th November, 2007 - Discussion

In the next episode, Top Gear leaves the confines of its draughty hangar in rural Surrey and heads on safari in Africa.

In their most gruelling challenge to date, our three intrepid presenters each have to buy a second-hand car costing no more than £1,500. Crucially, they aren't allowed 4x4s. This is probably a bit cruel on our part, because they then have to negotiate some of the most inhospitable terrain Botswana has to offer.

Their route takes them across the vast Makgadikgadi salt pans, treacherous rivers and game reserves filled with animals, many of whom want to eat them. Along the way, they encounter blistering heat, choking dust and the Stig's African cousin.

Yeah, I still think it was cool to see what they've managed to achieve... but imo they could've done a lot more with the whole concept. Or I just didn't get it...

That was a fantastic episode I must say very funny too and a bit of drama now and then. I would believe that some of the break down were fatal but they just found new engine parts to finish the show but I dont care really I was surprised with that Opel surviving all this

Thanx ALOT Jabba

I didn't like it at all....If they had shown all the support vehicles and shown the mechanics working on their cars, and explaining just how much of a hassle this was.... it would have been better....(like they did on the polar special)insted of JC's lancia magically comming to life several times.

scenery was amazing. that moonrise was incredible!

It was such a boring episode (hopefully not as much as the Polar Special episode) and lacking a lot of originality. IMO one of the reasons is because the challenge takes the whole hour, and therefore, the trip becomes monotonic.

On the other hand, Im a bit surprised that neither of the choosen car was french ,specially the old peugeot and renault saloons, considering that those cars are the cars for excellence for the africans in general, considering that those old french cars are reliable, they work in a simple way, the africans are very used to repairing them, and there are lots and lots spare parts of them

In addition, Im used to seeing them yearly in summer when they get the journey from France to Africa through San Sebastian and return, and BTW the cars go very very packed in general.

At the bits where they ran throw the fields of ''weed''.....I think that was fake or made in a verry small part that wasnt in any way part of the route.......and I dont think the cars really lasted all the way, Its imposible...but still, one of the best episodes I ever saw....

In a top 5 would be:

1: USA Episode
2: Africa Episode
3: Aston Martin vs. TGV
4: Veyron vs. Small Plane
5: Ferrari vs. Boeing

I also thought it very entertaining! And that´s the whole thing! Better quite entertaining for an whole hour than 5 minutes of entertainment and 55 minutes of crap (guess what show i´m reffering to here ) The Stigs african cousin was just hilarious
