The orginal article is confused - the LSX block is available in iron and aluminium form.

Just thought I would clear that up

SBC = small block chevy

BBC = big block chevy

As the requirements for displacements above 383ci (stroked 350ci) were seen, GM created a block with wider spaced bore centres to allow for a larger displacement - so the big block was born.

The LSx series of engines are not small blocks perse, they share physical dimension with the sbc family, and I believe maybe even the same bore centers, but thats it.

I believe you can call the sbc/bbc the Gen I of the chevy V8's the LTx family the Gen II series.

The LS1/LS6 are Gen III motors, The LS3, LS7 and LS9 and Gen IV's.

The LSx are the aluminium bretheren with the LQx motors being the iron block equivalents.

The LSX (big X) are a 3rd part branded series of block built by World to allow very large displacement engines that still retain LSx physical dimensions. They have an iron block and an aluminium version.

Anyone else feel free to add to the story - this is all off the top of my head so their may be factual inconsistances - but what ever you do dont use Wiki as your source

I would really like to see that car in action, I love it when people are really pushing the limits but I dislike when they spit out numbers on paper without real life test
