Oh well, late 70's and early 80's. Hence the Malaise. If you don't know what it is, it stands for that awful time when Jimmy Carter was president.
Here's the speech.
I want to talk to you right now about a fundamental threat to American democracy.... I do not refer to the outward strength of America, a nation that is at peace tonight everywhere in the world, with unmatched economic power and military might. ... The threat is nearly invisible in ordinary ways. It is a crisis of confidence. It is a crisis that strikes at the very heart and soul and spirit of our national will. We can see this crisis in the growing doubt about the meaning of our own lives and in the loss of a unity of purpose for our nation. ... I'm asking you for your good and for your nation's security to take no unnecessary trips, to use carpools or public transportation whenever you can, to park your car one extra day per week, to obey the speed limit, and to set your thermostats to save fuel

The mid 80's were a bit of a rebirth as it was the first time American cars started making decent power again under the tougher emissions standards.

Steven Wenkelman had a conversation with a friend of mine earlier this week, stressing how hard it's going to be to sell the cars that the whole of VW group want to make... the whole thing is rather depressing.
All in the midst, we have an official report saying that in 12 months, all of the global warming of the last century has been negated! yet... there are more cars on the road ever!
Stupid wacko's in charge

Oh, and I consider the 1979 Pontiac Trans Am the last classic muscle car. Many consider the TA the last surviving muscle car. '79 was the last year of the big displacement engines. Also, it was one of the last GM cars with a lot of older technologies such as leaf springs and carburetion.

It doesnt really matter if we are at the end of the 2nd Muscle Car era... because God is alive and well, and living in Texas and drives an SUV...
I should know, I saw him this afternoon
So, when I see God driving an electric powered Civic thats when I give up my gas guzzling V8

I don't think this is a big problem. First, I keep hearing about this 12 months/global warming negation thing. What's the deal? Second, turbo technology has my vote. Plus variable vane turbines make spool even more even and quick.
Plus there'll still be pumps in 40 years.
