Default Have you lost money because US financial crisis?

It's impossible to read news nowadays without seeing something about the financial crisis in US. The waves have been hitting Asia and Europe already.
So, I'm interested have you lost money because of this?
I spoke to my US colleague today. He is few years from retirement and he has gotten beaten badly.

I've actually made a fair chunk with all of this madness.

Unless you've sold, you haven't really lost anything. Im not selling, so I havent lost a dime.

I have. But not from the sale of shares.
It's the removal of liquidity, forcing banks across the pond to dramatically curb their lending.
It's making deals tough - even those that had firm funding commitments are now being "reviewed".
I saw this coming though, and i've insulated myself as best as possible.

It's so comforting to see someone being sensible about stock ownership for a change.

What's going on with WaMu stock anyway? It's not on the NYSE anymore and the company is now owned by JP Morgan . . . so now what happens to the stock and shareholders?

The company is not owned by JPM. Washington Mutual, the bank holding company now trades as WAHUQ, a bulletin board stock. JPM acquired the deposits, branches, assets, etc. of the banking operations from the FDIC. This way, they did not take on any of the debt or preferred stock of Washington Mutual, the bank holding company. The bank holding company has since filed for bankruptcy. Anything left over will go to the holders of senior debt. Shareholders will get squat.

I think you mean WAMUQ. Anyway, thanks for the clarification. I guess it really is as worthless as the price suggests then? Sorry WM owners . . .
