Default Which company makes the best V8 engine?

I suppose that many JW members have driven, tested, owned American cars with V8 engines. According to your experiences, knowledge, preferences, etc.....Which American company makes the best V8 engine?

GM:

The 6.3 liter AMG engine is basically germany isn't it? i know it is owned by chrysler but does that count. i would go for this engine but if not, you cannot go wrong with the 7 liter v8 on the z06.

Best: GM LSx (LS1, LS2, LS6, LS7) push rod, in block single cam small block based motors (not that NorthStar piece of junk ).

Best Design, Best Price, Best Potential, Best Strength, Best Weight, Best Aftermarket, Best Lineage and Variance and most of all : Best because it has been honed and refined in a real racing program that has trickle-down to customer cars

^^ Great points. I think there was a thread in the American muscle section talking about the history of the V8 war between GM and Ford - they used to trade best engines over the decade. It was interesting read.

I haven't driven any car with one of those engines, but if I had to choose I'd pick the 4.6 (or 5.4)V8 from Ford, because in my opinion it sounds better than any other V8, at least in the videos I've seen.

Chevy V8s, especially the LS7, are brilliant motors. They make good power, they are reliable, they can produce good fuel economy, and most importantly for an engine they are compact and lightweight for their power output. But I do love the Ford V8 sound... 8)

Actually Mercedes isn't owned by Chrysler at all. The 'merger' of Chrysler and Mercedes was actually a buyout of Chrysler, not the other way around.

The thread is in the US car seciton, is about US engines.. provides examples from the Big 3 - yet you guys STILL insist on continuing the 'euro engine' drum beating????

The 4.3 F-bomb is a high-strung, unreliable, peaky lump of pig alloy, that just like the Enzo-based V12 needs an army of support staff to be used to its true potential.

From a sound perspective, nothing beats a 427 Cobra! But like RC pointed the Chevy small block is excellent overall.
