They're used as taxis, so I'm not surprised. Seeing as Mercedes Benz build tough engines, I'm sure they are capable of operating beyond the recommended use-by date.

That's where over-engineering pays of.....

"Over-engineering"...yeah. Those cars must be dirt cheap now, with depreciation.

My dads Merc has almost 200k miles, and it's still running strong.
I guess if you really take good care of the car, it can run on the original block for a long time.
However, I'm more worried about the interior holding up, because a seat that has experienced 30 odd years of passengers, won't hold up easily. Leather can only last so long :\

200k miles is not too much for the car considering its that old. i work at an oil change place and we get fords and chevys that are only 2-4 years old with 100k and 200k all the time, hell, my car has 151k and still runs like a champ(ask RC, he knows) but 2.85 mill, seems a little too much.

sounds like my jeep.... 150,500 miles on it, and she doesn't burn oil... a slight leak; but less then 1/3 quart per oil change
BTW, hows that 600 hp MX 5 doing?
