Start Date for Hellboy 2 Confirmed
Jones to play three characters in sequel.
by IGN Staff
March 20, 2007 - Doug Jones, the actor and creature performer most recently spotted as the titular faun in Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth, has confirmed recent talk that has del Toro's next film, Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, pegged for a May production start date.

"We start in May, and I can't wait," Jones, who plays Abe Sapien in the series, tells The Comics Continuum. "We're filming in Budapest and I'll probably be there for five or six months."

Jones also confirmed during the chat that he will be providing the voice for Abe in the sequel as well as the physical performance (his voice was dubbed over by David Hyde Pierce in the original film). The actor revealed too that in addition to Abe, he will also appear in the picture as two new characters called "Angel of Death" and "The Chamberlain." Cool!

Stay tuned to IGN for more Hellboy 2 news just as soon as it breaks.

Hellboy was one of the best superhero movies in recent years, and cerainly deserves a quicker follow up than its taking. The original came out in 2004, the sequel is now due August 1, 2008. They had to jump ships from Sony to Universal in the process, but Hellboy should feel at home given the massive Universal monster movie archives.

SuperheroFlix has some details released by Universal on the movie. The immediate good news is the return of the principal cast and director Guillermo del Toro, working from a story by del Toro and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.

Hellboy, if you don’t know, is based on a Dark Horse comic. He’s a demon from Hell, summoned by the Nazis as a baby, but recruited into work for the US as a paranormal investigator. He files down his gigantic horns to stumps, eats immense amounts of food, has a giant revolver in his left hand, and a giant fist on his right.

Filming should begin in May on location in Budapest.

With a signature blend of action, humor and character-based spectacle, the saga of the world’s toughest, kitten-loving hero from Hell continues to unfold in Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. Bigger muscle, badder weapons and more ungodly villains arrive in an epic vision of imagination from Oscar-nominated director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy).

After an ancient truce existing between humankind and the invisible realm of the fantastic is broken, hell on Earth is ready to erupt. A ruthless leader who treads the world above and the one below defies his bloodline and awakens an unstoppable army of creatures. Now, it’s up to the planet’s toughest, roughest superhero to battle the merciless dictator and his marauders. He may be red. He may be horned. He may be misunderstood. But when you need the job done right, it’s time to call in Hellboy (Ron Perlman).

Along with his expanding team in the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development–pyrokinetic girlfriend Liz (Selma Blair), aquatic empath Abe (Doug Jones) and protoplasmic mystic Johann–the BPRD will travel between the surface strata and the unseen magical one, where creatures of fantasy become corporeal. And Hellboy, a creature of two worlds who’s accepted by neither, must choose between the life he knows and an unknown destiny that beckons him.
