LAMBORGHINI SUPER TROFEO ON-TRACK FOR STRONG SEASON

The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo took to the track in Adria, Italy for its
latest official testing session this week. The new Super Trofeo race car had
extensive tests of braking components and tyres, to ensure the car’s speed and
reliability for the forthcoming season.
Over 270 kilometres of full-bore testing went smoothly during the day at Adria
International Raceway, further proof that the Super Trofeo will be the racing
series to beat in 2009.
Lamborghini’s official test driver Giorgio Sanna completed more than 100 laps on
the drying circuit during the day, initially optimising the car for wet weather
conditions in the morning, before driving an entire race distance in the afternoon.
This was a real simulation of the stresses the cars will experience when the season
kicks off at Silverstone in May.
The Lamborghini development team was pleased to report that the day went well.
“We came to Adria to primarily test the performance of the brakes and tyres, as
well as component reliability in a full race simulation,” said Sanna. “Adria is ideal
for this kind of testing, as there’s lots of continual up-and-downshifting through
the gears, especially second, third and fourth. It’s also really hard on the brakes of
all cars that visit, because of the tight corners, so we’ve learnt a lot.”
“We’ve got lots of data to look at ahead of the May race weekend, and there’s even
more to come from the car in terms of performance,” he added.
We’ll be testing
at Barcelona next, a very different circuit with very different conditions.”
“The test at Adria went very well indeed, so I’m confident of the car’s reliability
and performance when the start lights go green at Silverstone in only a few
months’ time,” said Manfred Fitzgerald, Director of Brand and Design for
Lamborghini. “We’re well on track to achieve the speed and performance expected
of a Lamborghini race car, so we can address any potential issues well before the
season opener to ensure a great spectacle for fans, as well as great racing for our drivers.”

LAMBORGHINI GEARS UP FOR SUPER TROFEO SEASON OPENER
Sant’Agata Bolognese, 6th March 2009 - Automobili Lamborghini has begun
delivery of Gallardo LP 560-4 race cars to drivers in the inaugural Lamborghini
Blancpain Super Trofeo, following completion of a gruelling testing programme
this week.
There’s only seven weeks before the season begins at Silverstone on 02 May, and
the first batch of pilots in the pan-European series received their cars this week.
Teams will be able to test their cars at Misano, Italy during the beginning of April,
with Lamborghini engineers on hand to support teams with data and set-up advice.
Demanding circuits such as Estoril in Portugal and Adria in Italy have been used
extensively by the Lamborghini development team to refine braking, suspension
and geartrain systems. However, the all-wheel drive Super Trofeo test cars have
taken the trials in their stride, performing faultlessly during every session, clocking
up thousands of kilometres between them.
“By completing durability testing, we now have all the data we need on the
performance and reliability of the car,” said official Lamborghini test driver Giorgio
Sanna. “The development team’s role now switches to testing each customer car,
to ensure every one is set-up in the same way and that all cars on the grid have
identical performance. The development car feels responsive and secure, inspiring
confidence; we will ensure that the driving experience and handling is the same for
all drivers.”
“Rigorous testing over the last six months has proven what we’d expected: that
the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo can offer an unrivalled blend of
performance, glamour and entertainment,” said Director of Brand and Design for
Automobili Lamborghini, Manfred Fitzgerald. “Testing has gone extremely
smoothly, which is testament to the strength, reliability and performance of the
Gallardo Super Trofeo design.”

12/03/2009 LAMBORGHINI AND BLANCPAIN: THE PERFECT PARTNERSHIP
The world’s oldest luxury watchmaker Blancpain has been announced as title sponsor of the new Lamborghini one-make racing series, now named the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo. This union of the brands brings together the finest in automotive and timekeeping engineering, ahead of the inaugural race at Silverstone, UK, on 2/3 May.
Since 1735, Blancpain has produced innovative timepieces from its home in the Vallée de Joux, Switzerland. Each watch is made by a single horologist, reflecting the quality and individual attention given to building each Lamborghini road car as well as the 570 hp Super Trofeo race car.
The all-wheel drive series will visit iconic circuits such as Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps and Paul Ricard. It will run alongside the best in sportscar racing including FIA GT and Europe’s premier touring car series, DTM.
“This is an intensely dynamic partnership of two very different businesses, with the same drive for innovation and mechanical prestige,” said Marc A. Hayek, President and CEO of Blancpain. “In my mind, Blancpain has always been rather revolutionary…a little bit crazy, a bit of an adventurer. We have always tried to be different, to become more innovative, to try things that have not been attempted or been achieved in the past.
“We have only ever worked with the very best materials and craftsmen, and the pursuit of excellence is a passion that both Blancpain and Lamborghini hold dear,” continued Hayek. “Because Lamborghini is unmistakably a high performance manufacturer at the pinnacle of precision engineering, the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo is an ideal platform for further extending our brand to a worldwide audience.”
“Lamborghini couldn’t be happier to have an association with Blancpain, a company synonymous with enduring style, quality and genuine exclusivity,” said Lamborghini’s Director for Brand and Design, Manfred Fitzgerald. “Both parties will undoubtedly benefit from the joint venture. Both brands are passionate about looking after every hundredth of a second: we share very strong brand synergies, Blancpain are a great asset, and we look forward to the season ahead.”

The Lamborghini Gallardos fielded by First Racing and Ruffier Racing dominated proceedings in free practice for the FFSA GT at Nogaro. The bulls topped the timing screens in three of the four sessions. David Tuchbant / Antoine Leclerc, Bruno Dubreuil / Ulric Amado and Mike Parisy / Philippe Gaillard took turns in recording the fastest laps. This streak also continued in qualifying. The Ruffier Racing crew Parisy / Gaillard took pole position for both races of the weekend!
In race one the pole setter controlled the GT3 class and moved up the field deep into GT1 territory during the adverse weather conditions. However, a safety car deployed after the #56 JSB Competition Gallardo crashed threw the field into turmoil. Another Lamborghini crew benefitted at the restart. Dubreuil / Amado (First Racing) moved up to 2nd place and was the best Gallardo team. Helary / Cabanne and Thevenin / Peyrolles (Ruffier Racing) finished the race in 6th and 7th position respectively. After leading for much of the race Parisy / Gaillard had to settle for ninth position in front of their Lamborghini team mates Briche / Tardif and Tuchbant / Leclerc.
Revenge followed in the second race. All three podium positions were occupied by Lamborghini Gallardo drivers. Under blue skies and in front of 36,000 spectators the Ruffier and First Racing Gallardos quite literally flew around the circuit. Parisy / Gaillard converted pole position to a lights to flag victory and now hold fourth position in the championship. A brace of First Racing teams occupied 2nd and 3rd positions, Dubreuil / Amado and Tuchbant / Leclerc. The second Ruffier Gallardo with Peyrolles / Thevenin at the wheel was fifth. Briche / Tardif also took the chequered flag in race two for the JSB team and were classified in tenth position.
The point standings after Nogaro
1. Dubreuil / Amado Lamborghini Gallardo 48 points
2. Moullin Traffort / Lamic Dodge Viper 32 points
3. Vautier / Levy Dodge Viper 30 points
4. Parisy / Gaillard Lamborghini Gallardo 30 points
5. Leclerc / Tuchbant Lamborghini Gallardo 18 points
6. Cayrolle / Moreau Ferrari 430 16 points
7. Martin / Brandela Alpina B6 14 points
8. Thevenin / Peyroles Lamborghini Gallardo 14 points
9. Helary / Cabanne Lamborghini Gallardo 6 points
10. Destembert / Cabirou Dodge Viper 4 points

The front row on the Formula 1 track in Shanghai was filled by the GT3 Lamborghini Gallardos of Eddie Yau and Sam Yau. Two other Gallardos driven by Tit Lung and Yok Lung lined up in fifth and sixth positions respectively.
The first race of the GT3 Asia Challenge was scheduled on Sun-day morning. The race started under cloudy skies and was led by Eddie and Sam Yau who were quickly able to pull away from the chasing pack. Also running well was Siu Tit Lung, who moved up
into third place and, in doing so, gave Lamborghini a podium lock out in Shanghai. Yuk Lung took the chequered flag in fourth place. Owing to the successful result in the first race, the four Lamborghini Gallardos started from the front in the second GT3 Asia Challenge race over 15 laps. Race two was aborted after the start following an accident among the midfield runners, after the subsequent restart the additional ballast weight added to Eddie and Sam Yau made itself noticeable to such an extent that Eddie Yau had to surrender his lead. However, Sam Yau was able to maintain contact with the new leader and crossed the finish line in second position.
The GT3 Asia Challenge takes to the grid once again in Shanghai on the first weekend in May.

FIA GT3 European Championship: Season opener at Silverstone
Reiter Engineering travelled to the first GT3 European Championship event at Silverstone with two Lamborghini Gallardo. After tests at Paul Ricard (France) the team exploited the freedom of tyre choice after consultation with the drivers. For the first time Reiter Engineering selected Pirelli.
Unfortunately, the circuit on the British Isles offered very little grip, which unexpectedly affected the tyre performance. In free practice Klaus Ludwig / Albert von Thurn und Taxis and also Alexander Frei / Jonathan Cochet suffered from excessive pick-up. The tyres collected too much rubber from the track which in turn increases the lap times. "The car slides too much through the corners so that we can’t carry any speed and momentum out of the corners. The pick-up causes huge vibration which we feel in the steering," said the multiple DTM Champion.
Modified suspension settings for Saturday brought some relief to the problem but, however, without being perfect. "We hope to have more of a chance in the race over the distance to be able to move up the field," said Albert von Thurn und Taxis cautiously optimistic before the first race on Saturday’s afternoon.

SUPER TROFEO TRIPLE FOR PETRI CORSE
Media information: 16 May 2009

Italian race team Petri Corse secured three victories at the inaugural race weekend of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series at Adria International Raceway, Italy, on 16 May 2009. Fifteen Super Trofeo race cars took to the track to contest in the world’s fastest one-make series.
Qualifying
Friday’s 30-minute qualifying session saw Fabio Babini and Claudio Rossetto secure pole position for the first race of the season with a fastest lap of 1:16.621. Alongside them on the front row of the grid was Bonaldi Racing’s Gianluigi Piccioli and Davide Amaduzzi, having qualified with a time of 1:16.768. Lamborghini München Team Holzer completed the top three with drivers Uwe Alzen and Achim Winter, who set a fastest lap of 1:17.075 in the closing minutes of the session.
Round One
Team Automobili Lamborghini’s Giorgio Sanna passed Babini and Rossetto’s car for the lead on the second lap, creating a gap from the pursuing drivers. Albert von Thurn und Taxis of Lamborghini Racing Eastern Europe had a strong start to move him up to third from 12th on the grid.
After the driver change, Babini passed von Thurn und Taxis’ team-mate Jarek Janiš for second place before closing the gap between himself and leader Sanna. On the penultimate lap, Sanna fell back to fourth place. Babini passed Sanna for the win, Lamborghini Racing Eastern Europe’s Erik Janiš and Michael Scheublein claimed second place, with Jerek Janiš and von Thurn und Taxis completing the top three.
Round Two
Having won the first race, Babini started from pole for Round Two, creating a good lead in the first stint and allowing his team-mate Rossetto to focus on consistency and maintain their position in the second half of the race. Autovitesse’s Alexander Frei and Jonathan Cochet claimed second place, having started seventh, whilst Peter Kox and team-mate Marc A. Hayek finished third.
Round Three
Babini and Rossetto completed their weekend with a third victory, despite several lead changes during the course of the 35-minute race. A late safety car period, deployed for Lechner Racing’s spinning Maximillian Werndel, brought together the field, allowing Babini to climb from third place to the lead. Erik Janiš and Michael Schaublein crossed the finish line in second place, with von Thurn und Taxis and Jerek Janiš completing the top three.
“It has been a really fantastic weekend for us,” said Babini. “We have a great set-up and the car is very quick. The safety car restart in Round Three was very exciting; any of the top four drivers could have won. I know the track well, so I had an advantage at the start of the day, but all the other drivers have got faster very quickly, so it was a very exciting weekend!”
Team-mate Claudio Rossetto said, “This is my first race for a few years, so am very pleased with the result. The team did a fantastic job to put us in such a good position throughout the weekend.”
The next Super Trofeo race weekend takes place at Norisring, Germany, on 26-28 June 2009, supporting Europe’s most popular touring car series, DTM.

Notes to editors
The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series began in May 2009 featuring the Lamborghini Super Trofeo: a lightweight version of the Gallardo LP 560-4. The Super Trofeo comes with a reworked chassis and a power output of 419 kW (570 hp) from its V10, ‘Iniezione Diretta Stratificata’ engine. The race car features Lamborghini’s permanent four-wheel drive, making the Super Trofeo the only one-make, all-wheel-drive motorsport series.
Formed in 1735, luxury Swiss watchmaker Blancpain is the series’ title sponsor. The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo will run over six European race weekends, alongside other prestigious series such as the FIA GT Championship, DTM and the British F3 and GT Championships. Either one or two drivers per car can register for the series, comprising of free practice and a qualifying session, and three 40-minute races during the race weekend.
