Default Crash course in formatting...

OK...

My computer is filled with shit, and so I've finally decided to format the damn thing. The only problem is that I've never done this before. I'm kindly asking someone to provide an understandable explanation of what I must do.

Another thing --> I've lost my copy of Win XP somewhere. So, I'm downloading Win XP pro. corporate edition form kazaa (DON'T TELL MICROSOFT ). Is this a good idea at all?

So, someone PLEASE HELP ME!!!! I'm having enough of a handful just backing up all my pics, vids, music..... aaahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

THANKS!

Xp from kazaa will probably work just fine..

Here's the recipee to format:
1. Reboot, put your windows cd inside
2. press a key to start from cd when the message comes.
3. Just follow instructions until you get to the point where you can repair, or install new..
4. Choose install new, and when you're asked where to put it, you just delete all your partitions..
5. Make new partitions, and choose the one you will install windows on, you need at least 5 gig on this partition..
6. Choose either FAT or NTFS as format type, I use FAT..
7. Wait for it to format, and follow the instructions on installing windows..

The details may be a little wrong, because I have to scan my memory to find what to write..

^^^ Thanks!

So I don't need to do anything in DOS (like writing "format C") before I install WinXP? In other words, XP will do the formatting for me?

Whats the difference between FAT & NTFS?

No, winxp does that for you...

FAT and NTFS are two different file systems, I think FAT is the one before used on win9x, and NTFS used for WinNT.. But I don't really know..

Change the boot order if you haven't done so. Have CD go before the HD or it will load up Windows everytime you try. You can change it in the BIOS.

This post kinda remind me of those Win95 days............nothing is done for you at all, u have to make a boot disk, format your drive, setup ur boot disk so that it sees your CD-ROM....

dont use the FCKGQ-RHQQ2... ect key for windows, use a different one.
then update it (otherwise u will get a virus.. i somehow always manage to get one with fresh install)

it's a fairley simple and easy process.
