50 years of history say your wrong.
What other single car model (not make but mode), has been around this long - and remained true to purpose and heritage?

I did not mean Heritage...

The BMW will run after 300,000km.....because its German

But what about the corvette????

My dad had a 1996 Impala SS (with a LT1 engine) after 130,000 miles the we had to change the whole gearbox!!! :x

But the engine was great!

That depends alot on the transmission they use. The camaro trannys for the lt1 engine(93-97) were bullet proof.

The 97+ camaro ones went with a different manufacturer and it was less strong.
They don't make their own trannys so you can't judge them on that.

I'm not judging them...it just not usual with a BMW...

Changing the gearbox in any car is something that costs! This gearbox was used for the C4 as well.

This is simply my opinion! I know that the C6 and the Z4 doesn't fall in the same category, but its a hard choice because the BMW has a better brand name!

You guys are also missing a very crucial point....

In 2005 when the C6 will be released, the new BMW 3 Series will be out and that introduces a new generation of BMW straight six engines. Which the Z4, 5 Series and 6 Series will get.

These engines will be more powerful, more economical and more eco-friendly.

So its very hard to judge....if you are buying the car in 2005 the Z4 will look the same but have new stuff under the bonnet, the engines in the Z4 were introduced in 2001, BMW update their straight sixes every 4 years or so.

The Z4 is still using the same engine the Z3 3.0 used and the new 5 Series is using that same engine.....as well as the old 5 Series...

The new engines will be a VERY welcome addition to the BMW arsenal.

Also romours are going around that the next generation 3 series will be available with the 3.5 V8 you can find in the current generation 735i.

So maybe the Z4 might get it.......not likely but its posible

They say that the new 3 series will have a 3 litre turbocharged engine with 300bhp.

It will be 330ti...and of course the new M4 with a V8...

I currently have a C5 (you can see a pic of my engine in my avatar) and it will outrun, outhandle, outbrake, and flatout outperform a Z4 any day of the week. The build quality of the Z4 may be better and a more plush interior, but the corvette isn't designed to be a luxury car, it's all about the performance. When it comes to bang for the buck, it's hard to beat!

lol it defintely wont be called the 330ti.

ti is what BMW uses to define their compacts which arent available in USA.

BMW compacts are known as ti eg: BMW 318ti

I'd go for the C6 if you were considering the performance. But if i wanted a cruiser, i'd take the Z4 anyday. I may not be in the same league as the C6, but at least i can take roof down when the sun is shining...

I would have to say that the Mustang is pretty damn close to it by ten years and besides a three year absense the thunderbird has always been a sporty cruiser.

Another Einstein to the rescue... THAT is why we are saying that NO OTHER car model comes close with an UNINTERUPTED LINEAGE.....

The Thunderbird changed target market very much during it's life - then failed - then was reborn as a retro throw back...

The Mustang will always be 11 years younger... that's the thing about age - you can never catch up...
