Default Top Gear : S8 EP2 : 14th May, 2006 - Discussion

In the second show of the new series the beautiful Yorkshire Dales provide the backdrop for an epic contest between three exquisite cars - the Jaguar XK, the BMW650i and the Mercedes SL350. A frozen lake in Iceland is the setting for a race between a monstrously powerful rally and (what else but) a jet powered kayak. Super charged chef Gordon Ramsey is the star in the reasonably priced car and Jeremy, James and Richard wreak havoc on the roads of southern England when they hijack a live drive time radio show in Brighton.
hmm, looks like the the jet kayak feature got dropped from the first episode on sunday may 7th

In the contest the BMW 650i is quite a lot more powerful than it's rivals.. Go SL350 go

^^^ YUP , but the TG guys praise other things , like soul ,personality, and other technical aspects like handling, road holding

Power alone won`t make a car a winner

You definetely got a point. Still I think a better comparison would be if the SL at least was equipped with the small V8. The BMW is almost 100bhp up on the SL and I have a hard time seeing that a V8 Jag will lose to a V6 german on TG. Hope I'm wrong though.

Seems to become another great TG ap. Though the SL500 would fitted much better in that comparison...

With a nickname like your's, i can see your slightly biased.

They compared the cars on a cost and style basis. A large coupe with a performance marque, not on power.

Pricewise i think the sl350 is just about the same price as the 650 ... at least here in my country ... both cost like 65 millones de pesos ... or roughtly 130 thousand dollars or 60 thousand pounds
