taking a little advantage of this topic and looking at geek's task manager.
Any of you guys know a program that lets you see all the processes that the computer carries on, even the hidden ones, tells what they do, all of their characteristics, etc
I have a couple of processes I don't have an idea what they are and do. I run XP and hate it, my last laptop had 2000 and I knew all the processes that were runnning, but here in XP there are lots of processes
please help or tell me to go very far away

idunno man. i had a window that had tabs and stuff like fishy described but i right clicked somewhere and accidently clicked something else and then a different window showed. then it happened AGAIN and now there's the window that i posted.
if someone wants to contact me on aim my sn is Dorky Malorkus. it's much easier to describe it through aim.

Process Explorer is what you are looking for. Use it as my primary first-line diagnostic tool.

that window is basiclyy the same as the one u said u had before, the only difference is that instead of right clicking on the program u just press the botton at the bottom, and its strange that u dont have tabs at the top, what xp do u have? home or pro?
and no i dont know how to fix that

Easy: You are running task manager in tiny footprint mode. You enabled this by double clicking on the tabs...
Just double click on the border of the window to switch modes..
I couldn't let you suffer any more... LOL
p.s. Idiots Guide to XP is half-price at CompUSA until Saturday...

RC45. you know, sometimes you touch me. you're a real asshole to those who deserve it (much like i am) and you also have your fun with folks such as myself. yet here i am, in dire suffering, and you manage to put that all aside to help me out. sometimes, i don't know what i'd do without you. thank you. dearly.
if i'm single by the time i'm 40, will you marry me?

Thanks RC45. I had the same problem as geek, but I still got a list of the applications. While reading geek's post I rightclicked to see what his problem was (for I am an idiot  ) and I got this useless list of processes instead of the appications. Luckily your answer was on page two of this thread. Thanks. 0X

i find looking at the processes is generally more useful then the program list.
