Unhappy NAIAS (Detroit Auto Show) in trouble?

To put it briefly, NAIAS organizers are not happy with Cobo's current condition. There is an expansion proposal, but it's still dead in water until an agreement is formed between the locals. There's even rumors about NAIAS leaving Detroit, although obviously the organizers don't want to. NAIAS at Detroit is still the biggest auto show in North America (hence the name), but many other auto shows have been stealing its spot light. Los Angeles has moved up its date to become the first major auto show in the season, and was one of the three places Bugatti officially launched the Veyron. Chicago, New York, and even Philadelphia had unexpected world debuts that would've normally happened in Detroit. Not only that, Porsche didn't even participate in the last NAIAS. I hope they solve this problem soon. It's still home of American Muscles, although I wouldn't mind even more world premiers at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Wow that sucks, I'm orginally from MI and loved going to the NAIAS, it would be a terriable shame to see it leave Detroit, but the economy out there is so bad that any updates or expansions just wouldn't be possible. Hope they get this solved and soon. Thanks for sharing this.

problem 1:
Expansion of Cobo - Unnecessary, as there is plenty of "Real estate" available to manufacturers.... what, exactly would expansion do?

problem 2: Domestic auto makers, and "exciting vehicles" are under attack from the political parties controlled by the enviorMENTALists - causing the domestics to lose terribly to the foreign markets due to propaganda.

Problem 3: DETROIT and her union's - NUFF said..... but I could go a little into detail. Suffice to say, do you want an unqualified unionist loading and unloading your multi-milion dollar prototypes, and concepts? do you want unqualified contractors building your stands at higher then premium rates?

Problem 4: Detroit doesn't have the funds, or rather, doesn't want to spend the funds to expand Cobo. Detroit is muscling it's way to make the suburbs pay for it, without anything in return. That will not fly while much of Michigan is sliding to depression....taking the midwest with it.
Great - Detroit really is a great place, run by crooks, and the currupt.... this hurts business from being encouraged to continue in places like Cobo, but not limited to.
