Default Gallardo Weight... wayyyy heavy?

I had Heffner convert my TT G to a rwd car. The plan is to run it this way for a few months, track it, get a benchmark quarter mile time and do a few top speed runs. I took a spin this morning and the difference in road feel and handling was startling. The car feels lighter, more responsive and more nimble. Gone is that leaden, heavy feel whenever you make steering inputs. The front end of the car is also 125 lbs lighter, so the sense of being firmly planted and in control that you get with awd is also gone. This is now a drivers car and a lot of attention will be needed to keep all four contact patches on the pavement and maintaining grip! icon_mrgreen.gif

I did a few straitline power launches from a 5 mph roll and acceleration is brutallly, stomach churning fast. It is a testament to the rigidity of the Gallardo chassis that the car can handle 756rwhp and not get squirrely and unmanagable off the line. There is a tad of sideways oscillation/tail wagging in first and second, but shit, I expected worse and it was pretty cool. In third gear and up where awd becomes surplus baggage, the power gains are noticable.

We also weighed the car, and in this configuration, with a quarter tank of gas, my G is 3500lbs!! Since, my tubo conversion did not add any net weight (stock exhaust delete=entire tt setup) a stock G is comming in at 3600 to 3700 lbs. Add gas and a 200lb driver and you are at 4000lbs!!

DWiggs was definitely on to something..... these cars are a lot heavier than advertised.
Not surprising...

It must have a great chassis then to be so fast on the tracks where it has been tested. Remember that for instance the Gallardo Superleggera is faster than the much lighter Corvette Z06.

It only costs upwards of $200,000, it ought to outperform a cheaply built Corvette and its RUNFLAT tires (the SL runs on semi-slicks, doesn't it?)

Not to mention... the SuperLeggera is supposedly much lighter then the reported weight by 125 kg? right? The SL has a wing, and can get on the power earlier because of the AWD... anway, I like the SL. Lets see how it does against the lighter cheaper more powerful Corvette Supersport around a track.

But the price doesn't make it faster. And considering its weight it should be much slower than light track cars like the Z06 and other very fast cars.

No, on the contrary magazine tests have showed that the weight reduction isn't remotely as big as the company claims.

The Corvette should be much faster.

I guess that explains why the GT's weight was dead accurate on his scales?

The weight of his previous Gallardo was also dead accurate.

Well yeah the Gallardo has AWD and its made by Audi. Of course its going to be heavy, lol. Lamborghini claims 1430kg (3146lb) dry weight. I think we all know that is impossible and just a weight Lambo says to make themselves feel better for making such a heavy car. Back in 2004 when Road & Track first tested a Gallardo they weighed it and got 3560lb curb weight, with a test weight of 3740lb. Just like most every other car these days...heavier and heavier...

And your point is? The Gt is lighter than the Lambo, no one is disputing that.
