Default Does Porsche need to lie to promote a car?

I can't understand this marketing BS

Porsche says the new GT2 laps the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7:32. Impressive time, but let's wait until SA tests it.

Now, let's talk about some of its rivals' times....

Ferrari F430:

Porsche says:

7:55

Sport Auto:

7:55

Gallardo SE:

Porsche:

7:57 WTF?

SA hasn't tested the SE, but they achieved a lap time of 7:52 with the old 493 hp Gallardo

Ferari 599 GTB:

Porsche:

7:59 Is this a joke???

SA:

7:47

Dodge Viper SRT-10:

(Funnily, they compare its new top of the range machine against the convertible Viper instead of the Corvette Z06 or the Viper Coupé)

Porsche:

8:13

SA:

8:13

MB SL65 AMG:

(I wonder why Porsche considers the SL65 a rival to its GT2. Anyway, the SL55 AMG its way faster than the SL65 around a track, something Porsche apparently doesn't know, or doesn't want know.)

Porsche:

8:14

SA:

8:14

C'mon Porsche, you don't need to use these tricks, do you?

It's kinda sad but that's how marketing works.

If this lap time is true; that's awesome !!!...if it's not; I don't care because Porsche rules and the new 997 GT2 is so hot !

Has the new ZO6 been run on the ring? Betcha if I drove a 599 there it would be like 20 minutes. So I suppose it depends alot on the driver and who is paying him.

Porsche shouldnt waste there time with comparisons like this, its what Subaru uses to get you to buy their car.

New Z06 = 7:43 around the ring.

Could the GT2 really be 10 seconds faster? It is a focused car and it's designed specifically for the track with almost no compromise, so I suppose that it could be faster than the Z06.

However, the Z06 and new GT2 are not in the same category.

GT2 is really designed to be a track only special.

Put both cars in day to day real world driving and see which driver is happier after spening 4 hours in their car in real world conditions.

Also, Z06 = $70k USD, you can already get one used for close to $60k.

You have to pay at least 2x that for the GT2 which is not as usable when making the daily commute or driving to the local pub to unwind.

So the new GT2 will not be just a lighter 2wd version of the turbo like the previous ones?

If its a GT2 RS they should call it that, they certainly could charge more. Was the 7:43 around the ring with Fellows at the wheel of the Z06?

The 7:43 was done by Jan Magnussen

The GT2 was never just a lightweight Turbo, just as the GT3 is not just a lightweight Carrera 2.

By removing the 4 wheel drive the GT2 becomes much more lightweight. People are actually turning there Carrera 4s into Carrera2s for that reason. (and some other ones)

Thats a dumb idea, why not just buy the carrera 2s to begin with and save some money?

^So you can four-wheel drive if you want it one day.

It's all just marketing. Besides, it's not like it's false, or anything.

Some people buy a Carrera 4 cause they think they need 4 wheel drive. They find it makes their car slower less responsive. But its when the 8 CV joints need replacing that the really realize they dont need it.
