Default nicely tuned ford sierra cosworth (4x4)

Cool tuned ford siera 4x4 cosworth.
You've only got to pick up any Performance Car Magazine these days to
see what a crazy amount of modified metal roams our streets today. But look at any write up on a Ford vehicle and where it says
Next Car:

You'll be graced with the same answer time and time again.

Cosworth

Be it 17-year-old fiesta driver or 25-year-old Focus lover they're all the same deep down.

It's a name that swells in the heart of all hardened Ford drivers and punches hard in the belly of any high-powered Jap cruiser.

So when the new Fast Fords Team got asked to write an article on one of Ford's sexiest, prestigious and fast motors we just couldn't help ourselves!

Now I've got to be honest the Sierra Cossie never really appealed to me. (But then when I was fourteen we never liked women!) By the time I had finished eyeing the car over I was hooked! Nothing short of phoning up the bank to get yet another loan to fund the purchase of a beast that would look like the one that was starring at me right now.

I was in Fast Ford (.org.uk) heaven……….

It's not until you look closely that you get a real feel for the attention to detail I mean look at those twin headlights? The car plays it off like it was a factory extra. The spoiler was painfully grafted from an Evo 6 item looks like it could have been designed with this modification in mind. Where the F1 winglets came from only the mastermind behind this creation can tell you.

Any hardened modifier will tell you that wheels make a car. I mean it's obvious that this guy didn't need telling as the selection of TSW Imola's was a match made in heaven not only for this shape Scooby Slayer, but also for the chosen tyres in this case 205x40/R17 Yokohama A520's. That's some serious stopping compound and mixing all this together with a set of AP racing 4 pots our pilot finds himself stopping on a dime time and time again. Keeping the rear discs up to spec with standard kit keeps everything nicely in line.
In the unlikely event that this car was to corner at anything over the speed limit (heaven forbid!) things are kept tighter than a ducks arse with the use of Konis ever-popular dampers. Adjustable as desired for race or street these shocks are ideal for any task thrown at them. Our man has opted for the Chassis Dynamics springs allowing the car to be lowered a respectable 25mm. Any lower and you'll be scrapping chewing gum off the streets with your bumper! Not very street cred.

A few other nice things have been taken care of to help this baby corner like it's on rails including the removal of the front anti roll bar (yep this helps Ed) and replacement with TAS compression struts, OMP struts up front and at the rear and bushes all round add to the unique feel of this once standard motor. Money well spent in our view. We'd bet you'd agree once you see what this wolf is wearing under all that fresh black paint…………

I mean cossie's are quick. Ok ok cossie's are f***ing rapid (sorry ed but that's all I could think of!) so when you get a few engine elves looking to get dirty, things are going to get messy. Nothing could be further from the truth! This baby is as clean as a whistle largely due to all the main components being replaced. The T4 was first on the list followed by a much stronger Garret -31 actuator allowing the engine to run some serious boost. That not enough for you? No not enough for the owner (lucky barsteward) either. He quickly opted for some new tricks in the form of a Mocal oil cooler. Bailey took some cash and replaced it with a MS Oil feed filter, turbo damper, swirl pot, dump valve and a new shiny header tank. Money well spent? Not arrrffff!
Keeping things cool in regards to the boost act is a Pace RS 500 intercooler. Any turbo head will tell you that lower ACT means more power. Something this turbo tool offers! Further to that the engine is kept cooler by the use of a further Pace goodie this time an up rated radiator. Oh and did we mention the water injection! (yeah we did Ed) The standard hoses had to go and a new set of RS500 employed full time to deliver quality boost from this mother of all mothers of an engine………..

Not only do you need to use exhaust gases to charge your turbo you also need nice clean cold air too. Ramair covers this one nicely. At the arse end of the table you'll be lucky enough to spot another house favourite the Mongoose stainless steel 3" to 4" exhaust. If you can't see it you're blind but fear not…………you'll hear it.

If you've seen The Fast and the Furious you'll know how serious car people rate fuel management. But before the said film was even in the making our man had taken care of things with a 3 bar map sensor and a Motec M48 ECU. Everyone knows you'll need a bucket load of fuel so a set of Bosch 403's jumped in line and are currently making use of the WRC injector manifold brought especially for them. Wes managed to get hold of and adapt an Integrale 16V throttle body but some things are not best left alone so some further 'tinkering' was had here to help things along. With all this fuelling something was going to need to be done with the standard fuel delivery system. Enter the GGR 200 litre per hour fuel pump. This baby can push a golf ball through a straw it's that strong. So just in case a further upgrade of a FSE Fuel pressure regulator was added.
Paul Sleeman who original built the engine also took care of a few further bits such as the Aquamist water injection system, WRC distributor-less ignition, Webcon Lambda sensor, uprated front brakes and has helped Wes over the years with some great technical advice allowing him to fit everything on this monster bar the above himself!

Keeping the power down on any modified beast is going to be hard work. The AP Racing Clutch takes care of things nicely. Having eaten the same transmission twice in less than a year it's fair to say that there's enough torque here for a good few rags across the local countryside!

So what's it do performance wise? Well 500 brake horse power should be enough to be getting along with and if a 0-60 time of sub 4 seconds doesn't get your juices flowing I'd ask for a co-pilots view as this baby touches 175MPH. Oh but don't come crying to us when you fill your pants.

I'd like to sum up the huge spec and presence of this amazing vehicle but I'm afraid such words are either un-discovered or just to darn long for you monkey's to read. If you've been looking for motivation then this car is motivation enough for anyone.

The mad engine builders in Norway called Ruud Racing have built a Cosworth motor rated at almost 800bhp, now that is scary stuff but in general the Cosworth motor is very good. I have a Cosworth engine in my garage waiting to be rebuilt and it will then go into my Ford MK 1 Escort, it should be good for close to 400bhp so I can already forsee some nice sideways action

There is a mountian of information to be found on the Cosworth engine at :
