What octane rating does your local fuel have...?

I'm interesed to find out, the different types of octane ratings that fuel in different countries have. In my country, it depends where you're situated, the higher the altitude, the less the octane rating. So at sea level, you get 97 RON, but inland you get 93... and only very occasionally find 95. If you're really willing to pay a premium and know a few people you could get 102.6, but it's only really allowed for track use.

Another thing, there was a rumour going round recently that all the petrol stations use the same fuel. The trucks that deliver the fuel to the different stations are all unmarked and look the same. So how can Shell claim it's fuel is developed specifically with ferrari, or BP claim that there fuel is heavy metal free, when it all seems to be delivered by the same depot trucks?

Fuel for normal cars (i.e. not sports cars) is 95RON, but we also have Ultimate fuel which is 98RON - thats what I use for the WRX. Its costs about 10c/L more than 95.

Here normal fuel is 95 and 'Superplus' is 98. I usually fill my car up with Shell Vpower, which is 97. Across the border in Germany, Shell Vpower is 100.

most here is 98RON, but then there are the premium fuels such as BP Ultimate/Shell Optimax etc...

Racing fuel isn't widely available, but Tesco were going to trial 99RON on their forecourts.

Evo siscussed this in a couple of issues, and it seems that you don't neccesarily get the same fuel each time you fuel up. Tesco may stock BP/Shell/Esso etc... and Shell 98 may come from a BP refinery - its wierd like that

About the same as the rest in Europe: normal fuel is 95 RON. I little more expensive is 98 RON. And then there are the most expensive are fuels like Shell V-power, BP Ultimate, etc. But I don't know if they have the same octane number as in Germany for instance, where they range from 100 to 101 RON.

i think all over the US it's 87,89,91 with a few stations dealing in 102 and 104 for racing.

i think all companies use the same trucks, but they have their own holding tanks they fill from. The cheap companies use the same fuel, which is why they are 3-4 cents cheaper than Shell, BP and the others. this is the kind of gas you put in a commuter car like Hondasa and Toyotas.

That's MON right?

Though one can't convert MON to RON and visa versa with a formula, that would be about 94, 97, 99 RON. Thus pretty much the same as in Europe.

93 heighest average. But Sunoco has 110 unleaded though in the sunoco website, 110 is said to be leaded and 105 unleaded, so I never tried 110 on my car.

Here, i have 87, 89, 91-93. all range about 5 cents in between each grade.

I think there is a formula for it. I know i've seen it in the test plans in the diagnostic computers for the BMWs. Every now and then someone will get some shit gas and we can go in and have the computer run a test to determine the octane rating of the fuel. It's displayed in RON, but there is a chart or something to compare it.

we have 95 and 98, vpower over here is 95 and is priced between regular 95 and 98
