For a street car, straight line performance is a big deal (as almost every kind of street contest primarily involves acceleration.) Of course, turning is still an issues as you don't want to be left behind on a freeway onramp because your ladderbars are a hindrance. Basically, I'm not advocating a drag car set up but something more versatile. I'll go with either a Camaro or Mustang. Both are fun cars with lots of performance potential (read huge aftermarket.) People will know your car is fast, but just not exactly how fast. A last gen Mustang can be anything from a 15 second lacklustermobile to an 11 second beast without giving much away.

Evos and STI's work well too as they're just very hoon friendly. Dump the clutch and go! Minimal skill needed for launch until the tranny breaks at the drag strip where the grip is better. (I'm so sick of Evos lunching their trannies at the drag strip!)

I stick whit a awd car
Because you can use them all year round
When you have found the right setup you can pretty much beat everything on road and track
Example the norris design evo or the rc developments evo

Not here in europe.

So a awd car would be perfect for europe

Those are not "all around street cars" - those are unlimited budget no-compromise built super-tuner achievments rarely seen duplicated and are everything an all around street car is not..

There is a HUGE difference between such unlimited budget tuner one-offs and "an all around street car".

Perhaps you need to chnage your poll to "WHich car would you use to create your dream unlimited budget tuner car".

Forza 2, GT3, GT4, Enthusia, GTR2 - any platform that had a somewhat factual representative version of the C5 chassis (as well as a somewhat real-like physics engine) to speculate about possible advantages of weight, aero, power or gearing changes..

Sadly Forza1 and 2 never allowed for decent wheel use, so the "full emersion" value of the changes was never realized hehe.

But its been fun "playing with my mods" before actually buying them.

On the engine side, I do have some very sophisticated engine simulation software that has helped with cam, intake and exhasust modelling. The simulaiotn estimates have been pretty close to the real results - I have a solid lifter custom intake, individual throttle body model here that I will build if I win the lotto - 840bhp 720ftlb normally aspirated would be some insane fun, don't youthink? hehe
