I suppose so, but Toyota's making so much money off the Scion tC that it doesn't need to engineer a whole new RWD platform.

Money's the big issue, though. Otherwise, I'm sure everyone would do it. Even the Solstice and the Sky are still a bit too much for young people to own. Then again, why bother when you can buy a Mustang?

Getting back to the topic, I'm really growing warm to the Fieros. This red one looks very nice. I'd normally hate useless touches such as the glass filled buttresses, but it makes the car look shapely.

*I suppose that's the only way to have buttresses since it'd be impossible to see out of the car.

Ok, my last post about this issue.

GM just has issues in general. (Like their huge loss over 2007). That is why Toyota could do it right with a Cheap Lightweight RWD car. Keep the price around 20K. Could be a simple non-turbo with around 150HP.

I do love the tC btw, convinced my ex-girlfriend to buy one.

As for the Stang. I owned two of them, they are big and heavy.

Small rwd coupe for 20k with 150+ hp . . . ok, how's 177 sound? Then you've got the GM Sol/Sky and let GM deal with their financial issues. The warranty is dang good to.

Mustangs are heavy compared to such cars. I'm kind of hoping the generation after the next generation (2010 refresh) goes back to the fox body proportions. The rolled '89 Mustang GT I just got seems to be a lot of fun despite it's anemic 225 hp. Of course, it still has 300 pound-feet of torque pushing no more than 3100 pounds.

Mustang's still the most accessible new RWD car.

Oh, and GM didn't really lose $38 billion last year. It's just some crazy corporate law that made GM report all their net losses over the years all at once.

U.S. tax law allows a corporation that suffers net losses to carry forward the total loss balance into future years in order to use the negative numbers as offsets against future profits. The result is that future taxes are lower because the corporation is taxed only on the profits minus the forwarded loss. Meanwhile, the total losses that are carried forward are treated as assets on the balance sheet. That is where GM gets its total of $38.6 billion; it is the automaker's cumulative loss total.
Toyota won't do it. It could. But it wont. Not when it can comfortably ship boatloads of FWD cars without trying much.

Tis a sad day in my life. Im saying goodbye to my second Fiero today. Im finally moving out of the parents house again and Im in a bit of nasty credit card debt that I need to sell the car to get out of. That and its a small apartment so Id have nowhere to park it. At least Im saving money on insurance each month. I took a few last pictures as I wait for the buyer to show up.
