Well by your definition, Michael is not a true racer because last year during the same race he "settled" for second didn't he.

Michael tried till the very last corner, hence the .2sec difference between 1&2...FA said himself there was no point in risking it and he backed off after screwing up on 2 corners...and Michael crusieed for the last 3-4 laps...

anybody who says the tires are to blame for MS slowing down mid through late race is an idiot.

he is a brilliant driver, and race analyzer... with his team; they decided not to show off the bridgstones speed quite so much (he did set fastest race lap how many laps running?) as to IMO conserve the ferrari V8 for the next race... and to force Alanso to change his 2-stop stratagy into a 3 stopper!

that was brilliant; even if the coverage of the rest of the field was weak...

^^^
I doubt it...because Massa struggled in his 2nd stint aswell and there was no reason for him to go slow...

You got some of your facts wrong
- Alonso stopped twice not 3 times but Schumi's slow pace made Renault pit Alonso early for the second stop
- Alonso had the fastest lap... Schumi was second though

It was a fact that Michael was slow in the second stint though - his pace was nowhere near the his times in the first stint or the third stint. What was masterful was that he concealed his true speed and used it only when Renault pitted. Great work by him and his pits strategists

Here is what Pat Symonds had to say in appreciation for Ferrari's tactics:

I was thinking the same, maybe he did it on purpose. God knows why but maybe to force Alonso to make a mistake or something.

The weirdest thing was the 2 pit stop. We have Alonso behind him supposedly with a car than can go around 1.5 secs faster per lap, his stop was around 6.5 secs if I'm not wrong, then he comes out, Michael comes in after doing a lap with a slower car, besides that his stop is 7.1 secs long, a bit longer than Alonso's and he comes ahead of him ?? How did that happen ?? Logically Alonso would have come first without any struggle, he had a faster car and a faster pit stop !! I still can't imagine how that happened...

The key was that Michael had a faster in lap and out lap. Alonso's in lap was dictated by Michael's slow pace till Alonso peeled off to pit while Michael then went almost 2 secs/lap quicker.

On the outlap Alonso encountered some traffic, so he couldnt make up the distance to Michael.

but how ?? Alonso would have said it in the press conference, and how can traffic make you loose a virtual ~2 sec advantage (1.5 car fast 0.6 pit stop) ??

Maybe Michael was teasing him

Alonso was behind Michael when he pitted right?

Alonso's in-lap was slower than Michael's inlap by 2 seconds itself.
Alonso's out-lap was slower than Michael's outlap but not by much

Hence Michael got ahead.

That 1.5sec lap advantage was what he had in the second stint only. Remember on the outlap you cant immediately belt out a superfast lap - you need to get your tires up to speed.

after reading the article it kinda proves my point, Schumacher was just going slow cause he could, and when he needed to go fast, during his pit stop lap he went as fast as he needed. His pace was faster, if he didn't had done that he would have came out second...

Yes ... I think the truth is that perhaps he had a tire issue but he drove at a slightly slower pace what was truly capable to con Renault.

See now all this talk of schumacher purposely slowing down and reserving his true speed justs further backs the argument that a racer needs brains to win races, and in answer to someones comments about michael being closer last year to alonso then this year, well someone obviously wasn't watching alonso drive, he was literally on the ragged edge then when he made a big mistake going into villeneuve chicane he lost too much time to make up in 2-3 laps.
