I wonder if this is the same as Apple's 30" Cinema Display. I know the 20" are the same. I wonder how much it'll cost?

Probably is but at a better price point. I'd go with Apple's Cinema Display for FW ports & industrial design thing is though it costs a bundle more than what Dell will probably sell theirs for.

I'm guessing 1,999.00 for the 30"

Yeah good point. If it will be priced at $1,999 that will be one hell of a deal compared to Apple's $2,999.

I think this Dell one will have at least 4 USB 2.0 ports like their other Digital Monitors.

Your right though, you are paying a premium for Apple's style.

good thing bout dell is that you can find coupons several times. Right now the 2405fpw is selling for over 1k but I got it 5 or 6 months ago for 950.

Yeah, I just picked up the 20" WS for $340 about 3 weeks ago w/ stackable coupons.

Not bad. Maybe I could build a nice HTPC setup around it?

you have to put it further back.

though at this point... it would be better to run the video through a projector and play on a 12 foot wide screen.

I doubt any sub-$2200 projector can do the resolution of the 30" Dell LCD

what are responce times of projectors?

LCD monitors provide a crappy refresh rate which makes FPS on games bad... my monitor has 12ms responce and I can still notice a tiny lag if I start dancing like a bailarina on first person shooters such as fear lol.

i think projectors dont have problems with refresh rates but with lower priced or budjet projectors the problems are video encoding and contrast.

colors that are off temp and low resolution.

but i'm pretty sure with a good mid projector like the new focus' can be tweaked with a computer to provide exceptional proformance figures.

the difference with computer monitors and projectors is that computer monitors are meant to be viewed from real close and projectors from far back.

that's why i'm saying it kinda defeats the purpose of having a massive screen in front of your face when your on the comp. lcd's aren't as smooth as conventianal lamp prjectors and tend to be harsher on the eyes.

i have a 1 inch from dell now and wouldn't think of buying another one unless it was a real smooth display with an insanely low dotpitch so that i could put it far back and still be able to get a consistently smooth and soft image.

but then again... seeing one of these -->> at a diameter of 40 centimeters is never a bad thing either.
