Yes, CoreAVC together with the latest media player classic should solve your problems. It works perfectly and smooth for me

I have this problem with 1080p vids on my older computer and found out because of a crappy processor and vid card. Maybe its the same in your case?

Core 2 Duo E4300 (1.8ghz @ 200MHz x 9) running at 3GHz and a GeForce 8800GTS run's 1080P videos just fine

You should be able to get that processor for $150 next month.
