What the hell? Why didn't the cops just drag the guy out, 1960s style? That would have been more friendly than attacking him with electronic shocks.

I wonder why the cops came in the first place? I heard someone trying to explain it on the video, but you could hardly hear it. Thats amazing that they did that in front of so many people and IMO they were pretty lucky not to have caused a riot especially when threatening others that they would be tazered as well.

Keep in mind these are "UCLA" cops which I dont believe are a part of the LAPD, but im not sure.

Found a news report of the incident on YouTube. In this video, the reporter says the student's name is Mustafa Taba tab-something, which is why he is yelling about the Patriot Act I am assuming. His ethnicity will bode well for him when he decides to sue.

PS - UCLA sucks! Go Trojans!

I understand Berkeley was a hot bed of student activism and civil disobedience during the 1960s. I wonder what the aftermath of this will be.

But still, why didn't the cops just drag the bloke out? It worked in the 60s.

Yeah, the cops seemed to just want to draw attention to themselves, but ended up looking incompetent. The best way to deal with such idiots is to calmly tell them to leave. Calmness leads to calmness. If they don't respond to that, then they are huge idiots and must be dragged out. In any case, using the taser was probably unnecessary.
