Fortunately doesn't work that easily. They have made a great copyprotection.
You have to be logged in to their site with username and password to get the key. And you have to unlock the game with the key within an hour, also logged in with username and password. And then the game detects hardware changes so you can't copy the game to another computer.

Live for speed S1 only costs £12. I think it is really worth the money, and paying for it will keep them developing Live for speed S2 and S3 also.
Buy it 8)

Except the hardware keygen piece is what stopped me from spending the 12 quid...

I should not have to reregister software if I choose to change hardware on my PC - which I do often.

Their loss.

That feature alone is stopping MANY people from registering.

All the other copy protection features are ok - but the hardware code gen is just stupid.

I dont understand what you are trying to say. You get as many keys as you need. You only pay once. And you get three keys a month in case you resintall or reformat or whatever. If you run out of your monthly limit of 3 they will still give you a key if you email them.

Yes, I don't see the problem either. I think it is a good thing, as they (the three guys developing LFS) get paid for their work, and will continue developing. Without the hardware code I guess it would be too easy to crack.
I have changed hardware and changed OS myself after installing LFS for the first time, takes a couple of moments to get a new code and activating it.

Doesn't matter how easy it is to do - I should not be "forced" to re-download ANYTHING after they have got my money. Once is enough - just like almost every other CD-Key protected application.

As I say - their loss - not mine. I spend a lot of money on software - but I have my principles.

The number one thing is that I am never forced to re-apply/join/down-load/re-connect etc.

I should still be entitled to use what I paid for without an Internet connection.

As far as how easy it is to crack without the hardware crack - also their problem not mine.

I am in the business of being a customer, and as such, their costs and troubles of doing business are not mine.

Simple really.

You don't need to re-download anything, only get a new key and enter it in the game menu. Agree its a problem that one can't register without a internet connection, but most people have these days, and LFS is mainly made for online racing. And it seems like you are connected also. You can use it without internet connection btw, but only not the registering part.

Its their choice to make it that way, I support it, you don't.

They have for sure taken in to consideration that a few doesn't like this. I don't think its a loss for the developers and not for the rest of the LFS Community either;

If it had normal protection like other games, it would quickly be cracked like all of them, and they would definately have fewer customers but lots more users because of piracy.

AND, then the racing wouldn't be as clean as it is now. I know, because before the game was released when we played the betaversions (which were free for all), there where lots of times annoying wreckers racing around making havoc and spoiling the fun. After S1 was released I have not encountered or heard much about that problem anymore.

nope - theirs... I still have their 12 quid... in fact I have already given it to another publisher..

Don't worry - the game will get developed to a decent level, and then once they taste the dollars offered by a publisher all abets are off...

They just haven't been given real offers.

Be honest - no matter how "noble" you claim to be - when someone offers you 7 figures - you sell out.

Why? Because that is the entire point - to get something besides "creative control" back in return.

Either way - it's pointless getting into these "open source" kind of debates...

Remember when the Linux guys had their chance - and they turned the world down? That was 3 years ago - in the mean time Linux based stocks are worth crap - while the Microsofts etal of the world have made yet another billion or 2.. - and the only Linux distros with a future are being dogged by SCO and it's lawyers... LOL.

The free market is an awesome system...

Not sure how it is generated, but as I have said if you change hardware you have to get a new code from the game homepage.

EXACTLY - an unneeded pain they subject their customer too because of their own lack of skill in protecting their software.

By sending your 12 quid to begin with, you are paying to PREVENT this type of thing - not subscribe to it..
