Well obviously all those Stormtroopers. And most of all, the entire fleet of the Empire fears Darth Vader, now that can't be good now can it.

Yes. Exactly right. Star Wars was made in a post-Vietnam environment. Empire was bad, rebellion was good. The Rebels had to win or people would have rebelled against George Lucas.
