There really isn't much in the area to begin with. It's pretty much campgrounds there, but this time of year camping isn't that great because they are getting back into the rainy season so i doubt the campground was all that full. It's pretty close to the visitors center about 5 miles from the mountain itself so i'm pretty sure it didn't take long.

Toutle, 30 miles west i believe, is the closest town which should be safe from the eruption since the Northface is the most likely to blow.
Its a small town so even if they did have to evacuate it wouldn't take long.

Yes, I am following this with interest!
Volcanoes rock; saw one erupted in Mexico the other day which was pretty impressive to say the least!
Sorry if you have seen this site, it is quite interesting!

http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/volcanocams/msh/

It is subject to prevailing winds blowing ash and crap around, but is in colour and they have archieved photos and up to date info/warnings.
Good info on the whole national park area as well!
Stay safe all those in the area please, that "killer shot" could end up just that.
