A prototype for the Mercedes SL Black Series has been spotted on public roads around the Nürburgring, in preparation for some hot laps later this week. This is the most wicked SL ever conceived, with optimum performance its top priority.

Huge flared fenders are likely created with ultra-light carbon fibre, to reduce weight and to accommodate this car's enormous wheels and tires. The roof on this SL has been converted into a fixed coupe roof, also crafted in carbon fibre to lower the Black Series' center of gravity and further reduce weight. Exactly what engine mods have been employed here are uncertain, but you can be sure it's insanely powerful.

Our spies will be hot on the tail of the SL Black Series, so keep an eye out for more pics from the Ring.
Once its out, it could possibly the best drivers' Benz!

Both are 6L V12 TT.
Err the SL65 AMG is a TT V12, the SL600 isn't equipped with the TT .. The TT version delivers 612bhp@4800rpm, the 'normal' V12 delivers 517bhp@5000rpm!

I know, late reaction
You are wrong. Check your facts before you try to correct somene. BOTH are twin turbo V12:s

Thats because Mercedes are boring ass cars.
What ever bimmer boy

At least they don't look as dreary and boring as BMW's, of which I've driven nearly all current iterations, both M and non-M alike, unlike you who had a go in a... ML 350? pfff... just admit it, you know jack sh1t about MB's and prefer to stand out as another ill informed BMW owner because you've got no passion in "cars", you're just another "fanatic", and fanatics don't give a sh1t about cars, they only care about "their" marque. They never find anything wrong with "their" marque of cars, but know how to shout out sh1t about 'competing' brands because it makes them feel all big and buff

Anyway...

As was said, the SL600 and SL65 both have Twin Turbos, but the 600 has a 5.5 liter V12, whilst the 65 has a 6 liter V12. Both can get an additional +100hp from an ECU update, and a number of owners have done this.

It's looking to be a very aggressive looking car. Not as radical as I would have hoped, though.

Wonder if it will affect the reliability of the tranny given that there's so much torque in those things.

I remember a few years ago when the CL600 came out, they had to tune down the torque because unregulated it was upwards of 800 lbs-ft, if I recalled correctly. It was also the same reason why they had to use the older beefier style 5-speed auto instead of the newer 6-speed. If my memory serves me .

But damn, this SL looks pretty damn good. I don't even really care what it looks like, but those flares make it look extremely good.

Yeah, I think over all this has waaaay better proportions than the SLR.

Looking forward to seeing this car w/o camo.

I Hope not to be dissapointed by Mercedes Benz; IMO, the SL has always been the most beautiful merc so far thoroughout years and Ive been sometimes asking myself: Is it possible to improve the cars styling in the next edition, and the answer has always been yes until now; see if they improve the cars look although its even to improve some perfect shape
