Buying a laptop, need suggestions.

Thats amount of money isnt gonna get you the Greatest of Laptops. But Sony makes a really good laptop, STAY AWAY FROM COMPAQ AT ALL COST! I can not stress this enough. Compaq sucks the balls.
Also good laptops
Gateway, ABSPC( www.abspc.com) IBM of course. I will try and get you some links to what you want in a laptop.
Are you a college student? If so alot of universities give their students discounts on buying laptops, cuz so far ive found all the laptops to start at around 1299.

go to www.cnet.com or pcmag.com or pcworld.com they usually have different laptop categories. The price range is mostly within your limit.

Just a thought,
my eldest son, who studies avionics, has a hi spec DeskTop home and uses an IPaq when he's not at home. He finds that much more practical.

Because compaqs are Piles, and will break, not may, WILL. My bro had a laptop compaq things screen had a green line in it within a year, same as my sisters, these are just many of the shitty things that happen to compaqs.

If you're buying it for school make sure you get just about the lightest computer you can afford. I actually went to the trouble of importing a VAIO SR laptop back in the day when I was heading off to school (all of 1.5 years ago ) and its weight (2.6 lb) has really made all the difference. Whereas all my friends with huge Dell and Compaq models may have faster processors, they never end up using them because the things are too goddamn heavy to carry anywhere. Meanwhile my laptop is fast enough for the stuff I actually do while on campus (typing, net, Maple calculation, etc). Anything else I do on a desktop back at home. (Not that you even necessarily need this--plenty of thin and light models exist with enough power to do everything except gaming.)
