Hi All,
As you might know, the Golf 1 is still been made in the VW factory in South Africa and sold at redicilous prices too. In the SA market its alongside the like of the Opel Corsa. 25 yrs on the go. Doesn't this sound a bit like Russia, with those old cars ?
Any case, read today of the latest toy from the engineers at VWSV division.
They took the Golf1, form the assembly line, as well as a Polo front frame, a S3 Audi motor and brakes from another Golf2 project 10years ago, as well as a Golf TDi gearbox with long ratios
The motor was fitted to the Polo subframe, and that was bolt onto the Golf1, making the front detachable. The S3 motor was remapped and Golf4 18T intercoolers joined in serial, to produce 195kW. There is no a/c or p/s.
This once off car looks like all the other 1600s coming off the assembly line, except it runs a 400m in 12.4 seconds.
I wondered by myself how much this baby actually cost them. VWSV says its a once off car, and people should not even ask for one, as it was assembled by a group entusiasts, which so happens to be engineers too.
