Default SCCA autocross, Baton Rouge ( Vids up!)

Going to be a night event at the Baton Rouge EVO (Emergency Vehicle Operation) Center. Tech starts at 3pm and the first car hits the track at 6. It'll run to about 1am.

They have a 600' x 400' skidpad that the cones will be set up on (unfortunately we don't get to run on the police training course )

I know we don't have many members (active ones anyway) in the area, But anyone else interested? If you don't have a helmet, they have some that you can borrow. Just make sure you don't have anything loose in the car and your battery is tied down. Other than that, you should be good if you decide to come

http://www.cenla-scca.org/evoclot.jpg the skidpad

http://www.cenla-scca.org/directions.html directions to the event if anyone wants to participate or just watch.

BRING CASH!!! this is a mobile event so they don't have the card machine.

See you out there..if anyone is going to show

Well, last night was a blast There was some actual competition in my class (H-Stock) for once...including a 89 Corolla His car was carburetted though and mine's fuel injected. Other than that there wasn't much difference.

My usual rival, my coworker and his BMW 320i were there along with his roomate's 67 Firebird. How the firebird is in H-stock is beyond me because it's an inline 6 with displacement higher than 2 liters but no matter.

My first run was pretty conservative as i was trying to get a feel for the course, which thanks to the rain was soaking wet. I think i hit a cone which would have added 2 seconds to my 64.994 second run.

run 2 went considerably better, knocking 4 seconds off my raw first run time for a 60.1 and change.

run 3 was similar with a nearly identical time.

run 4 i was pushing way to hard and wasn't watching the right cones in the first double apex turn on the back of the track, so i ended up with a DNF for cutting the corner, but i sill lost .8 seconds on the run to end up with a 60.9

Up to the fourth run i was leading H-stock. My direct rival, the other Corolla, was 1 second behind me, while the BMW, on slicks mind you, had a 68.9 and 2 DNF's due to a puddle in his braking zone which caused his tires to lock and send him skidding through the cones on 2 straight runs

I had H-stock locked up until the BMW's 4th run in which he pulld a 58.1 out of his ass but, i did take 2nd, which netted me a trophy since there were 4 cars in the class All in all i think i held up really well considering the BMW had slicks on and i only lost by 2 seconds on street tires

I'll have video of 3 of the 4 runs posted shortly. I had my little webcam ducttaped to my rearveiw mirror the 4th run was too dark to pick anything up, which if you look at the lighting from vids 1-3 you can see that it got dark very quickly.

Yeah, alot of us thought the RX-7 with the LS-6 was going to be slideways through the whole thing, but he was understeering the whole way. The S2000's were also a bit twitchy coming out of the back corner. Some of the 944's and the 914 all got backwards at the finish.

Not to mention the Mustang that did the 360 and ended up in the grass at the finish line.

the rain stopped before my 4th run, but there was still standing water in alot of braking zones.
